Fans of "Men in Black" will surely be delighted with the news that a reboot of the film is in the process. They will get to see the new extraterrestrial life forms that will be featured in the movie soon.
According to GameSpot, Sony is moving forward with "Men in Black." In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the married producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirmed that a reboot is in talks.
"We're in the middle of it. It's very active," said Parkes when asked if they are considering on reviving the franchise with the new Sony regime. "It will be reinvented as a trilogy," said MacDonald.
However, there's a big catch, the movie reboot might not feature Will Smith. Smith has been part of the franchise as James Darrell Edwards, an N.Y.P.D. police detective who was later recruited by Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) to join M.I.B. The pair went on their venture in supervising the extraterrestrial lifeforms who resides on Earth and hide their existence from the ordinary humans.
Thus, the producers were asked if Smith will still be part of the reboot but Parkes response was "Most likely no." For sure, many are disappointed that Smith will no longer be part of the film. However, it should not be a surprise, since the actor had already expressed his lack of interest in the next "Men in Black" film.
In an interview with Collider for "After Earth" Smith was asked about "Men in Black 4" and his response was "I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We'll look at it and we'll consider it, but it feels like that it might be time to let someone else do that," ScreenRant has learned.
The report suggests that Smith is getting wary in being pigeon-holed as "the sequel guy," which explains why the actor is dishing on revising his previous blockbuster roles like "I am Legend 2" and the dual "Independence Day" installments. "Men in Black 3" was an exception because Smith was involved with the storyline. He came up with the idea of making time-travel the plot to bring an emotional closure to J and K's relationship.
Meanwhile, according to Gamespot, Sony was working on a MiB/21 Jump Street crossover film. However, this remained to be a speculation. Neither Parkes nor MacDonald mentioned it in the interview.
The most recent "Men in Black" movie which was "Men in Black 3" was a box office, earning over $624 million in global ticket sales. All together, the first three installments generated $1.6 billion at the box office.
