The Kenny family from Myrtle Beach, Horry County, South Carolina, was coming home from their vacation at Walt Disney World when they made a shocking discovery with which they were not prepared to deal.
Family after Disney Vacation Finds Home Wrecked
Imagine coming home from a vacation and opening the door to find most of your high-ticket items entirely wrecked. Such was the headache that welcomed the Kenny family returning from their trip to Disney World.
Brian Kenny and his wife Kara recounted the sight to which they came home. Kara said it was something "beyond what could be imagined." The computer was smashed, the TV was destroyed, Bryan's watch collection damaged, and so was the brand new hot tub they recently purchased this summer, Fox8 reported.
"The tub was destroyed with a shovel, and the computer was urinated on so much it caused the insides to fry and cause smoke," Bryan said.
Cleaning Up Nightmares after a Vacation
Then, there was the cleaning up that needed to be done. All the bedrooms of the home were in total disarray. There were broken glasses and even holes in the walls. Top that off with sticky liquid, which covered the entire floor. The couch was also all glittered up and destroyed with soda.
They were Forewarned
The couple was yet to arrive home when they received a phone call alerting them that their home had been broken into. The couple did not want to spoil their children's trip, so they stayed in Florida according to their itinerary. And also, because they knew the damage was a done deal and was waiting for them at home, DailymailUK reported.
But what they would come home to was beyond the mere vandalism that was reported to them. Bryan said they did not consider the case of vandalism to be "as bad as what actually happened."
Persons Responsible for House Damage Won't Face Charges
To add to the family's horror, they found out that the perpetrators of their wrecked home cannot be charged due to one factor--they were underaged. The minors admitted to entering the house through a window to get a drink. The police report noted that the kids' vandalism had been intentional, News Channel 8 reported.
The Horry County Police Department added that the children could not be charged for damaging Kenny's home.
Insurance Fails to Help Distraught Family
The family quickly called their homeowner's insurance company only to find out that not a single one of the damaged personal properties can be covered under their insurance plan. Though the children broke many things, the insurance company will only help them out with the cost of repairing the structure.
The Total Cost of Damage
The Kenny family plans to pursue civil action against the parents of the boys who damaged their home. Because of the boys' age, the maximum compensation would be $5,000, which is much less than their repair bill of nearly $40,000. The family is currently staying at an Airbnb for over two weeks while demolition crews are working on the floors and walls damaged by the kids.
