While attending the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park last Saturday among other celebrities and performers, Katie Holmes, 36, convinced her nine-year-old daughter, Suri, to join her on stage. In a rare public appearance, the actress encouraged her daughter to wave at the crowd while they were on stage. It was perhaps the biggest gathering of people that Suri had seen, according to People Magazine.
The event the mother-daughter pair attended highlighted social issues and awareness about extreme poverty, according to Huffington Post, and among those who were also in attendance included Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin of Coldplay. People Magazine further reported that Martin's kids with ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, were also in the crowd, as well as the First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Meanwhile, on her Instagram account, Katie would sometimes share photos of Suri to her followers. Just two weeks ago, she posted a photo of herself carrying her growing little girl, and a week before that, she shared a photo of Suri making art.
The mom and daughter seem to have fairly adjusted to life without Tom Cruise, whom Katie divorced in 2012. This, amidst reports that the ex-couple are having a bitter battle over child support, according to Radar Online.
The news outlet reported that since the nine-year-old hasn't seen her father in two years, and as her needs are growing, Katie is bent on asking the court to raise the amount of the $400,000 yearly child support Tom has been paying. "While Katie's taking every acting job that comes her way, she doesn't have the ability to keep her and Suri living the lifestyle that Tom's fortune allowed," a source told Radar.
"There's also the fact that Suri is getting older and needs more money to travel back and forth across the country with Katie, as well as for her dance, skating and music lessons, new clothes, arts and crafts, and tutors," the source added.
Tom has been busy with movie commitments and is based mostly in London, hence he allegedly can't see his daughter. The source also said that the actress "would be fine if she never saw Tom again, but taking proper care of his daughter financially is another matter." Katie is allegedly eager to have a face-to-face with her ex-husband in court for this.
Meanwhile, Katie is keeping busy with work as her new film, "All We Had," gets underway. The movie will also mark the actress' first directorial job, according to Mirror.
