A Florida model, who has thousands of followers on social media, faces a tremendous amount of backlash and criticism after doing a photo shoot right next to her dead father's open casket.

Jayne Rivera from Miami has gained popularity on social media because of her fashion, travel, and trendy posts. However, her recent upload on her Instagram account has gone viral for the wrong reasons. She posted glamour photos of herself during her father's funeral that her followers did not appreciate.

The Florida model shared at least eight snaps from the photoshoot, where she was wearing a sexy black dress for mourning. She wrote in the captions that her father was her butterfly and best friend. However, Rivera also posed for the snaps like a professional model, prompting some to call her out for her lack of discretion and disrespect for her father.

"Not cool Jayne," one follower wrote. "Your dad was a decorated vet, a photo shot by his casket should be beneath you. May he rest in eternal peace."

No Response but Deletion

It's unclear who found out and shared Rivera's funeral photoshoot, but it made its way to Reddit's discussion board under "Cringetopia." HITC reported that she has over 300,000 followers on TikTok and over 80,000 followers on Instagram. The Florida model's other claim to fame is a dance video on TikTok, which has raked in over 11 million views.

The social media star, who also works as a fitness instructor, has not yet responded to the criticisms nor issued a statement to her followers. Rivera deleted her accounts as a result of the negative reaction to her pictures. Before that, her followers told her that they would unfollow her because of her "most horrific" post.

Rivera's controversial funeral photoshoot sparked a debate among netizens on Twitter. One person asked why it was offensive, and someone explained that a funeral should be a solemn affair to honor the dead.

"It's wrong to take such a significant ritual and turn it into a vanity fair," the netizen wrote.

However, another netizen defended Rivera's action because she chose to remember her father by doing a photoshoot. The netizen added that it was more bizarre to see strangers on the internet dog piling on the Florida model. Some commenters agreed that every person grieves differently.

Plea from Funeral Directors

Meanwhile, funeral directors ask mourners to stop taking selfies with the dead to post on social media. In Quebec, Denis Desrochers said that they had seen friends and relatives of the deceased taking out their camera for the snaps.

Though they have tried to ban the activity, some could still steal a few shots in. Worse, some funeral-goers take photos and use a face swap app to share comically filtered images of the dead person.

In 2017, a young woman from Mexico also sparked outrage after posting a sensual photo while waiting in the line of mourners for her grandfather's funeral. According to local reports, the girl is in the habit of posting sexy selfies on her social media account, regardless of the event.
