As a dad with four kids and a very lucrative career in Hollywood, Matt Damon's schedule can get pretty hectic. But as the actor reveals while making the press rounds to promote his latest movie, "The Martian," he makes it a point to never be away from his family for more than two weeks.
"Usually, we're all together. Sometimes it's challenging, but like we were talking about before, it just has to be the priority," the 44-year-old Hollywood star said in interview with Today. Matt has been with Luciana Barroso for over 15 years, and they have four daughters together, Alexia, 16, Isabella, 9, Gia, 7 and Stella, 4, according to US Weekly.
Known best for his role as the agent Jason Bourne in the Bourne series, Matt is the first to admit his kids don't see him as cool. "You're not cool to your own kids. You're kind of 'dorky dad,' no matter who you are," he said in the interview.
He's also the first to admit, he's not really great at fixing stuff at home. "We were living in New York in this rental apartment, and I didn't want to put a nail in the wall to hang like, a poster. I called my brother and he was like, 'Do you have a stud sensor?' I'm like, 'What?' I'm useless," he said, according to AZ Central.
Being in a house full of girls, Matt said that sometimes he does want just 20 minutes to himself, but he's very involved with his kids' life. In fact only recently, the proud father told the press his eldest daughter got her driver's license.
"My oldest daughter just got her license yesterday," Matt said via USA Today, and it was him who taught Alexia how to drive. "She would drive last year just to school every morning. We'd get in the car and drive," he related.
Matt and his wife pretty much manage keeping the kids away from the paparazzi, as photos of his family hardly hit tabloids. "I attribute a lot of it to luck," Matt told USA Today. "[Paparazzi members] shoot me every day coming out of the gym... [but a] married guy with kids? It's not that exciting."
The actor also attributes "luck" when it comes to his wife. "It's a crazy idea but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn't tell anybody else about their relationship. But I'm lucky I found my wife. And I guess maybe, if there's any secret ... it's to feel lucky," he said via Entertainment Weekly.
