Britney Spears does not want her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, to spill more family drama and has filed a cease-and-desist letter so the latter would no longer bring more attention to their controversies as Jamie Lynn releases "Things I Should Have Said," her new memoir.
In a statement, Britney's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said that his client would not tolerate the "misleading or outrageous claims" Jamie Lynn has peddled in her book about Britney's legal tussle with their father Jamie Spears, over her 13-year conservatorship. He said that the younger Spears' book release was "ill-timed" to exploit her sister for monetary gain further.
Rosengart also told Jamie Lynn that she should know, among everyone else, the abuse Britney had to endure under their father. Yet she has been making the press rounds to promote the book while talking about her sister's life.
Hit Them, Britney, One More Time
Before the cease-and-desist letter, Britney could not resist responding to Jamie Lynn, who has had guest appearances on TV and online, to open up about living in the shadow of her famous older sister. In a post on Instagram, Britney said that she regretted not having enough strength to slap her sister and their mother, Lynn, right across their faces while she worked hard for their lifestyle. She alluded that Jamie Lynn has been riding on her coattails and enjoying her privileged life while she slaved to make millions of money for her family.
While Britney went on tours and made albums as a teenager, Jamie Lynn had an easy adolescent life where everything, including her opportunities in show business, was handed down to her. Britney said that she never experienced being served and cared for by her mother, even when she struggled with heartbreak with her first boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.
"Meanwhile, Jamie Lynn, who was 12, indulges with the TV for hours then goes to lay out on a raft at the pool," Britney said.
Britney also said that while her father took millions from when he led her conservatorship, her mother was likely behind the brains of the operation because she is smarter than their dad. On the other hand, her sister was also complicit in her exploitation despite Jamie Lynn's repeated pronouncements that she tried to help out and supported her sister despite her fight with her family.
Britney Under Surveillance
Meanwhile, Sherine Ebadi declared in court that the Spears patriarch instructed a security company to place recording devices in secret in her sister's bedroom so they could watch and monitor her. Alex Vlasov, former staff from Black Box Security, made the allegations last year, which Ebadi has now corroborated.
When Vlasov's claims came out, the lawyer of Britney's father said the monitors were in line with the "parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court" as Britney's conservator. The father claimed Britney gave her consent to the video monitors and recording of her private conversations on the phone, especially with the attorney who was challenging her conservatorship.
After winning her conservatorship in mid-2021, Britney is said to be considering another lawsuit to charge her father for abuse.
