In a conversation with guest Huma Abedin on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Drew Barrymore disclosed that she was saddened that she did not have a private moment to relish her first pregnancy.
Abedin and Barrymore shared the same experience and admitted that they felt robbed of not announcing their terms. Huma is a New York Times bestselling author, and like Barrymore, the news of her pregnancy made it to time's blog before she had the pleasure of making the announcement herself.
Drew's Pregnancy News Leaked too soon
Drew said she was walking out of her OB/GYN office after learning that she was pregnant. Chris Miller, who worked with Drew and who was outside, got all these calls and messages saying, "We know she's pregnant. We're breaking the story."
At first, Chris and the "Charlie's Angels" star dismissed the calls as rumors. They learned later that she was seen carrying a sonogram as she was leaving her doctor's office.
"I was stupid enough to carry the sonogram in my hand out with me," Drew said in an interview with People. "I was depressed or saddened, kind of, that I didn't get to have that be a private thing, a moment, or just to wrap my head around it," Drew admitted.
When Drew had her second child, she decided to share the news. She said that the last time she never commented on it, people stalked her the whole time. So, with Frankie, her second child, she was open about it.
"So yes, it's happening, it's true. I tried to keep it a secret for as long as possible," Drew admitted of the second pregnancy.
Abedin also shared her traumatic pregnancy story. She said she had "so much rage" when her pregnancy became public, saying that the "pain" from her "secret" still lingers until today.
Drew freaked out over her pregnancy scare
Drew also revealed a pregnancy scare when she starred in "Scream." She was having a nervous breakdown because she felt that she was pregnant. Drew turned to her co-star Courteney Cox for advice as Drew knew her as a "mature, safe person."
They were supposed to shoot a poster when she got so nervous she recalled asking Courteney, "how do you know if you're pregnant?"
Drew was married to Will Kopelman from 2012 to 2016, and they share two daughters, Olive and Frankie.
Lessons on motherhood
When she was going through the divorce with Will, Drew admitted that she got so knee-deep in mothering the kids that she felt like, "I don't know who I am anymore."
"Santa Clarita Diet," the horror show that she starred in at that time, gave her a perspective in life: remembering that she is a person with a history.
"You're not just a lost mother. You are a human individual, and you can go and get lost in something and find yourself again."
Drew's was such an inspiring journey for a mom who was traumatized at her first pregnancy news leak.
