"Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez may be inspiring a lot of young women on her show, but for the actress, she's driven in life by her father, Genaro Rodriguez.
Unknown to many people, Gina actually keeps a photo of her and her father on the set. While rewatching the first season of "Jane the Virgin," a fan saw this in the background and promptly posted it on Twitter. The actress happily responded to her tweet, saying, "That's a picture of me and my father. I would think its xo and abuelo in the story," Gina wrote on Twitter.
The actress revealed that her family almost lost her father in a terrible accident when she was 15 years old. "The car was like an accordion, it was so smashed. They were totally sure we were going to lose him," Gina said via Emmy Magazine.
Genaro's full recovery took two years, and he spent it driving the TV star to school as he listened to motivational tapes. "Then he started making me look in the passenger-side mirror every day and say, 'Today's going to be a great day. I can and I will.' At the time, I thought it was so lame. The worst! But he wouldn't let me out of the car until I did it," the actress shared according to People.
This has inspired Gina to write a book based on her father's motivations. "What I came to realize is that there is no better way to live than the way that man lives."
Meanwhile, fans of the series may also be surprised to know that the baby boy Jane gave birth to at the end of season one is actually a baby girl named Aria. Aria's dad, Joshua, regularly shares a photo of his baby on his Instagram, and many of these are from the set of "Jane the Virgin."
"Being on set for @cwjanethevirgin is such a great experience. Here I am with "Jane" aka @hereisgina and "Mateo" aka Aria aka my daughter. I still can't get over the look Aria gives Gina Rodriguez #AriaRose15," Joshua wrote in one post.
In the series, Jane's baby was abducted at the hospital, but not to worry, she will recover Mateo in the upcoming season, according to Entertainment Weekly (EW).
"Jane the Virgin" will premiere the second season on The CW on Monday, Oct. 19 at 9:00 p.m.
