Lily Revealed Her Stormy Relationship with Her Father
In 2017, Lily published her memoir, "Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me" and dedicated a chapter about her stormy relationship with her father. She revealed that her father was always not around in her life growing up that she grew up angry but missing him.
The actress admitted that she developed an eating disorder because of her insecurities with her relationship with Phil. It took her a decade to resolve her issues and finally told her dad her deepest feelings. She said that she has forgiven her father and has invited him back into her life because she will "always be his little girl."
Phil married Lily's mother, architect Jill Tavelman, in 1984, after his divorce from Andrea Bertorelli, his first wife, with whom he had two older children. In 1989, Phil and Tavelman welcomed Lily, their one and only child, together. During this time, Phil was actively touring with his famous band, Genesis, and then went on to have a very successful solo career as one of the most prolific pop singers in the world. According to The Sunday Times, Phil is second only to the Beatles' Ringo Starr as the world's wealthiest drummers.
However, in 1994, Phil and Tavelman separated when Lily was just five years old. Their divorce was finalized after three years. The singer said he'd usually send his daughter fax messages since he couldn't call her to preserve his voice in between his concerts.
In 2016, the singer confirmed in an interview with ABC News that rumors of his affairs during his marriage to Tavelman affected his career. He denied that he cheated on his second wife, but he went on and got married to Orienne Cevey in 1999.
