Jennifer Lopez is keen to teach her teenage twins, Emme and Max, some important life lessons as they become "little adults" and start creating their own lives.

In an interview with People, the superstar mom said that her twins are growing up so fast and will be celebrating their 14th birthday this February. Lopez noted that Emme and Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, are amazing children. Now that they are teenagers, they have their own ideas and opinions about the world.

As a mom, Lopez said that she wants her twins to value the "little key things" in life, such as thinking positively and expressing their feelings. She also constantly tells her children "to treat people well."

Lopez hopes that her children will not fall victim to anyone and that they will find good, healthy relationships in friendship and romance. She also wants Emme and Max to learn to love themselves first before starting a serious relationship with someone.

"If you're good on your own, you really can have a beautiful relationship," the mother said. "Until then, you're probably going to struggle through it and try to find it."

The Best Mom She Can Be

In an Instagram video to welcome the New Year, Lopez said that she's mindful of being the best mom she can be, aside from being the best partner, daughter, sister, and friend to all of the people she relates with. Sources close to Lopez revealed that she and her beau, Ben Affleck, a dad of three, thrive in their blended family and put their children first in their decisions.

Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021, roughly 18 years after their first relationship ended. The Grammy-winning singer admitted that she had fears about getting back together with Affleck because their previous romance was tabloid fodder from 2002 to 2004.

She said that she and Affleck got "trampled" in the press back then, but things are different today because they are older, smarter about life. They also have kids to consider in their every action. Affleck's kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner - Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel - are also in the same age group as Lopez's twins.

Thus, the couple is working hard to protect what they have as they integrate their children into their relationship. Lopez also said that she's showing her twins what she meant by loving themselves first before having a beautiful relationship.

Conscious of Her Public Life

Lopez also revealed to her friend, Hoda Kotb, on "Today" that she and Affleck, as well as the twin's father, are conscious of how they talk about their private lives in celebrity interviews. The "Marry Me" star realizes that the children and their friends will read or watch these interviews, as well as the judgments from the public.

The mom wants her kids to know that they keep things private because she's also respectful of their privacy. She said that as much as she will share her happiness with her fans, some things will remain sacred to protect her family.
