Warren Jeffs: Polygamous Mormon Sect Leader Allegedly Abused His Children

CNN reports that Warren Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), has been accused of sexually abusing his children.

Now adults Becky and Roy Jeffs revealed the alleged sexual abuse by their father in the upcoming CNN show hosted by Lisa Ling, "This is Life," which premieres on Wednesday. They said they were abused as children.

According to Becky, she first revealed it when she found out that one of her sisters was also abused as a child.

"I thought, I'm not the only one molested, he's done it to her it must be something that was in his nature," Becky said on the show. "Where does it end? If he had this in him, how can I trust him? How is he really our prophet?"

CNN tried reaching out to Warren Jeffs' attorney, who did not have an immediate response from his client.

According to FOX 13, Becky and Roy are two of Jeffs' children who have recently left the FLDS, which is based in the twin cities of Colorado City, Utah, and Hildale, Arizona—places with communities that have been devastated by recent floods.

Jeffs is reported to have an estimated 78 wives, and has fathered around 60 children with them.

Jeffs was imprisoned in 2011 after being convicted of aggravated sexual assaults to two girls: a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old girl, who according to his claims were his "spiritual wives."

According to People, prosecutors said that Jeffs in 2011 engaged in sexual abuse with the two girls, and one of the key evidences used against him in court was an audio recording of him committing the crime with the 12-year-old.

Jeffs represented himself in court, turning the trial into a spectacle. He said he was "at peace" with the conviction, and was imprisoned.

FOX 13 reports that although he is currently serving a life sentence plus 20 years, he still maintains firm control of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints which has around 10,000 members.

The FLDS is a breakaway Mormon sect that practices polygamy. The mainstream Mormon church, however, has renounced that practice more than a century ago.

Jeffs, according to People, considers himself a prophet of the FLDS, which requires that men must have three wives in order to go to heaven.
