Heidi Montag defended her new diet in an interview with People magazine, saying she is eating raw meat, including animal organs, to address her fertility issues. The 35-year-old reality star made the stunning revelation on Thursday, March 10, saying she has been struggling to conceive her second child with husband Spencer Pratt.
Montag said "I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year and a half, so I'm willing to try different things." The Colorado native explained that raw meat is a "great source of nutrients" and that she feels incredible on this diet. Montag added that the raw meat diet has given her "a lot more energy, clarity, and increased libido." There has also been overall improvement on the chronic pain she had been experiencing for some time now.
The Hills: New Beginnings star explained that she thought she would "give the carnivore diet a try" as she "loves trying new things." She admitted that there is always a risk in eating raw food, with Montag comparing her new diet to eating raw sushi. Montag said that she just happens to "like eating sushi-style organs."
Montag claims animal organs are very nutritious
Montag went on to explain her controversial diet, saying "When you think about where the most nutrients are that are bio available to humans without toxins, organs are very nutritious parts of animals." Montag added that "culturally, organs are a critical part." She said that "eating raw liver is going to preserve as many nutrients as possible."
Montag credited Paul Saladino, MD, for sparking her interest in this raw meat diet. Montag also shared her insights about the consistency and taste of her new delicacies, saying "I have definitely adjusted to the taste. I do like the taste cooked. I mean I love Foie gras."
Montag's raw meat diet came to light last month when she posted a video on social media platform Instagram of herself eating bull's testicles as well as raw liver, with the television personality claiming that eating animal organs has plenty of benefits.

Montag looking to increase fertility chances with raw meat diet
Apart from changing her diet, Montag said she has been taking supplements to improve her menstrual cycle. Montag, who is mother to 4-year-old son Gunner Stone, is searching for ways to increase her fertility chances, after she had surgery last August to remove her non-cancerous uterine polyps.
Montag posted a YouTube video at the time about the surgery, saying she had a procedure called a hysteroscopic polypectomy. Montag said in her vlog that she was feeling nervous before entering the facility. Montag added that she was filled with excitement ahead of the procedure, saying she is hopeful the surgery works and that she can get pregnant right away as this is the reason behind her fertility issues.
