In California, a private preschool has issued an apology addressed to the students' parents, who were outraged after seeing the viral video of a teacher leading the kids in chanting, "We want him out!"
The video from ABC 7 News showed the teacher from Turning Point Christian School asking the children, between 4 to 5-years-old, to name the current U.S. president.
After the children answered, "Biden," the unnamed teacher asked the kids what they wanted to do with Pres. Joe Biden. They replied, "We want him out!"
The clip was shared in the messaging app for the school, which was celebrating President's Day. However, some parents felt that the teacher who thought of the activity was "indoctrinating" the kids.
Apologies for the Misunderstanding
Officials of Turning Point Christian School said in a statement that they acknowledge the misunderstanding caused by the video. Per a statement on NBC News, the school officials reiterated that the video had been deleted because it did not align with the institution's philosophy to honor and respect those in authority, including those in the government.
The school, however, has not indicated to the press if the teacher received disciplinary action. Regardless, one mother said her daughter would not be back in the classroom.
Mom Christina McFadden said that while she respects everyone's right "to believe in what they want," her daughter was not extended that same opportunity based on the teacher's actions. She said that the chant had been "planned, practiced and recorded" with the teacher comfortable enough to share the content on the internet.
McFadden said that her daughter could not even comprehend what the teacher wanted them to do since she was still in preschool. The mother also filed a complaint so school authorities could investigate the matter. However, she was told that the agency's focus is on the health and safety of the students. She also discussed her complaint with lawyers, who advised her to sue for money. However, the mother refused and said that monetary gain was not her goal.
Parents Prevented from Re-Sharing the Video
Meanwhile, KTLA reported that the parents received a text message asking them not to re-share the video as a courtesy to the other families and the kids in the class. Despite her complaint, McFadden also learned that the teacher is still employed with the school. Turning Point Christian School has refunded her enrollment and two months' tuition fees, but she said she had not cashed the check.
She decided to share her story to encourage other parents to take action and become "more engaged" in what their children are learning in class. The mom said that she had also sat down with her 4-year-old, and they reviewed the video together. Her daughter seemed amused by the chant as she kept repeating, "We want him out!" all over again.
