Parents Tom and Montana claimed they did not use a nappy on their baby Blue after two weeks of "potty training" starting when she was just two weeks old. The couple said they used the elimination communication with their now 15-month old daughter, Blue. The couple said their baby Blue walks to the bathroom and knocks when nature calls.
Elimination communication (EC) is a practice that parents use to focus on baby cues such as timings and signals to address their needs, as per MoreFM.
Elimination communication
The couple shared a video on how they used EC to teach their daughter and tips for parents who wish to try their method in potty training. Montana explained that the practice is about listening to the baby when they want to go to the toilet.
The father, Tom, added that moms know precisely when the baby is hungry as kids send out cues for that. He said that babies also give cues when they need to go to the toilet. As a parent, he was advised to listen for these cues and watch for them, The Sun wrote.
Montana admitted that she thought it was a "bit crazy" when she initially heard about the practice. After doing some research, she learned that EC is used worldwide.
The couple admitted they still "use some nappies," but their times have been drastically reduced as potty training is way better for the environment.
The couple, who lives on a bus, said it is cleaner if "you just take them to the toilet."
The nappy training
Montana recommends starting the training in summer when kids wear lesser clothes. Try and stick to your baby, dressing them in something that parents or caregivers can easily take off.
They said they initially used a Tupperware container. Tom added that a Tupperware is convenient to put in your car so you can pull over anytime you need to put the baby in the toilet.
The couple recommended allocating at least a day for the baby to train. They said that it took Blue one day to go to the toilet using the Tupperware container. The couple taught their baby to "give" signs on her face when she needs to go to the bathroom, the DailyMail wrote.
Montana says it is crucial to take the baby to the Tupperware, even if she shows a "maybe" sign. Days later, the couple said that their baby Blue gave cues like needing to go to the potty.
The couple said that EC works best when parents or a caregiver is with the parents the whole time. She also shared the types of holds and poses when using the potty training bowl.
For Tom and Montana, EC is a form of empowerment as it is their baby's way of telling that she is being heard and her needs are met. At 15 months old, her parents happily report that their baby walks to the bathroom and knocks on the door.
According to National Health Services (NHS), most children get potty trained at ages two and two-and-a-half. However, experts say that there is no perfect time.
