Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his harsh criticism of cooking shows like Masterchef, Kitchen Nightmares, and Hell's Kitchen. He has met his match, though, with Ramsay's mother, Helen Cosgrove, putting his cooking skills to the test.
According to News18, Ramsay shared a video on the social media platform Instagram on March 27, which was Mother's Day in the United Kingdom. The clip showed the 55-year-old chef and his mother cooking a meal together. Ramsay asked Cosgrove to taste the dish after he was done cooking.
The Michelin-starred chef's mother dipped her finger in the bowl and tasted Ramsay's creation. Cosgrove's instant reaction to her famous son's dish went viral as she did not like it. She was quite shocked by the taste, and her expressions were funny. Cosgrove can be heard saying, "Urgh, I don't like that!"
Gordon Ramsay gets a dose of his own medicine
Gordon can't help but laugh at his mother's reaction to his cooking. Ramsay, who is dreaded by aspiring chefs worldwide for his brutal quips on their dishes, wrote in the caption, "Happy Mother's Day, Mum! You may not enjoy my toppings, but I love you."
The Hindustan Times reported that since Ramsay shared the video a few days ago, the Instagram clip has accumulated more than 310,700 likes. The numbers keep on increasing, given its comedic value. Ramsay's post has also prompted followers of the famous chef to post various comments, many of whom reacted with laughing-out loud emoticons.
One Instagram user posted, "Like mother, like son." Another user joked, "Lol mom's will be so honest with you." One user shared, "You can be the best chef in the world, but you ain't satisfying mom or cooking better than her." Another follower commented, "hahaha, now I understand everything."
Ramsay is the second-richest chef in the world, currently owning 35 restaurants. The Scottish chef, raised in England, has apprenticed under some of the most talented chefs on the planet, including Joel Robuchon, Guy Savoy, and Marco Pierre White.
Ramsay decides to no longer ban mobile phones in his restaurants
Ramsay grabbed the headlines just last week when he announced at an event to launch his television show that he no longer bans mobile phones in his restaurants. The Daily Mail reported that Ramsay implemented that directive back in 2006, banning the use of mobile phones from his three Michelin-starred restaurant.
According to Ramsay, he introduced the ban to stop diners from yabbering and disturbing other customers at his flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, located in Chelsea, West London. Ramsay said in the interview that many chefs and restaurateurs hate the idea of phones in restaurants today, and he thinks it is the best thing that's ever happened.
Ramsay changed his stance on diners using mobile phones in his restaurants because they can provide instant feedback on the food they just ate, which is important today.
