Mother of Sacramento Shooting Victims Calls for Justice for the Victims as Hunt for Gunmen Continues

Pamela Harris, the mother of Sergio Harris, 38, one of the victims in the Sacramento mass shooting, called the shooting on early April 3, Sunday, a "senseless massacre" and hopes that the authorities catch the people responsible and prosecute them to the fullest" as the hunt for multiple gunmen continues.

The mother said that the killing was senseless. There were "bullets everywhere" after at least two unidentified men discharged more than 75 rounds in less than a minute when people entered the street and left bars and clubs, The Independent reports.

Pamela Harris "just collapsed" when she heard about her son's death. She said," All I know is my son's dead."

She told reporters that her son, Sergio Harris was a married father of two young daughters that loved him dearly, and he loved them. Unfortunately, the girls will not see their father anymore, she said.

The mother also told KCRA that her son was a very energetic young man. He was fun to be around, liked to party, and was always smiling. He said his son does not bother people. Ms. Harris admitted that she does not know what to do as she does not even feel that what is happening is real. She said it just feels like a dream.

The incident was a sad and terrible act of violence that killed many people. She said she wants answers so she can have closure for her children.

She recalled that she just had dinner with her son Saturday night.

Sergio Harris was one of the six people killed in the shooting. Twelve others were wounded in the shooting at around 2 AM Sunday on K street. Four of the injured have critical injuries.

The Sacramento County coroner identified the victims as Sergio Harris, 38; Johntaya Alexander, 21; Melinda Davis, 57; Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21; Devazia Turner, 29; and Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi.

Fox News reported that one of the victims identified was Devazia Turner, 29, a cousin of Harris. Turner's father, Frank, said that he wants everyone to know that his son is a good father and that he does not have another son.

Action on Gun Crimes

According to Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester, a large fight occurred before the shooting. The police also confirmed that there were multiple shooters. They asked witnesses to send additional footages to aid in the search. Lester told reporters that the scale of violence in Sacramento is unprecedented in her 27 years in the area.

As of Monday, the six people who were gunned down in Sacramento were identified. The police have also arrested Dandre Martin, 26, for assault and illegal firearm possession in connection with the Sunday shooting.

On Sunday, President Joe Biden called for action on gun crimes. He encouraged people to do more than mourn but act.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom described gun violence as a "US crisis."
