'Wolverine 3' Plot & Release Date: Hugh Jackman Confirms Upcoming Film Is His Last, Movie To Feature An Old Logan

There is no doubt that among the things the audience loves in Wolverine is Hugh Jackman himself. The actor gave an impressive performance in bringing the clawed mutant to life in the big screens. However, Logan and Jackman will live their separate lives soon.

Jackman confirmed to Toronto Sun that "Wolverine 3," to be directed by James Mangold, will be his last in the "Wolverine" franchise. And although his friend Patrick Stewart will be in the film, there is no chance that Jackman will reprise the role even as a cameo in the future "X-Men" movies.

"They're probably recasting as we speak," Jackman said with a chuckle. "It is my last Wolverine. It feels like the right time and time to go."

The actor doesn't expect to be involved in the recasting, but expressed his interest in seeing a younger Wolverine. "I look forward to it. It will be interesting to see a younger version of Wolverine, because I was already 30 when I took it on."

The report suggests that the next Wolverine is guaranteed to be shorter than the 6'2" Jackman. Wolverine is one of the short characters in the Marvel comic universe. In fact, Jackman recalls that when he was cast for the role after Dougray Scott dropped out, there was a concern over his height.

"I was in (then-Fox Entertainment CEO) Bill Mechanic's office, and they were having a kind of final meeting where they talked about my height," Jackman said. "It was me standing in ditches, shoes off, people on planks and boxes standing next to me. They're all very, very nervous about that. But, by the second movie, no one cared."

Jackman admitted that he was asked several times on who he thinks should take his role. However, the actor has not given much thought about it because he still has to do one more film and teased that he doesn't want to make it too easy for the studio to replace him.

But Jackman hinted that the next actor will be younger than him for sure and added, "I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine," Variety has learned.

On the other hand, according to ComicBook.com, there are speculations that the next solo "Wolverine" movie will revolve on the "Old Man Logan" storyline from the comics.

It will be set fifty years in the future and will take place on a parallel world in which the world's supervillains unite to destroy most of the world's superheroes. The report claims that Wolverine will be teaming with an old and blind Hawkeye to mount mission and escape from being captured.

"Wolverine 3" is slated for a 2017 release.
