A mom was left unrecognizable to her kids after she had a bad reaction to a $1,000 cosmetic treatment she gifted to herself just before her 41st birthday.
Mariana Janse, who has four children, had plasma fibroblast therapy that promised to reduce years off her face by removing eye bags and lines around her eyes. But then, Janse woke up the morning after her cosmetic treatment with a red and swollen face. While she was in slight pain, she was also concerned for her appearance because she was due to go to her 13-year-old son's school in a matter of days for a parents-teachers meeting.
Janse related to Daily Mirror that the cosmetic treatment was supposed to fix her droopy eyelids and remove the excess skin and dark circles under her eyes. She thought she needed plasma fibroblast therapy to tighten her skin and allow a flawless makeup application. She said that she was expecting some redness as she was aware it was one of the after-effects of the treatment, but she was still in shock to see her face balloon with a lot of red dots around her eyes.
Nonetheless, the mother fulfilled her commitment to see her son's teachers, who naturally asked if she had allergies. The mom, who was left unrecognizable to her kids, humored them by saying that she was simply trying to look years younger.
Son Was Likely Traumatized
Though Janse and the rest of her family could laugh at what happened, her 13-year-old was traumatized because he didn't want to be around his mother for days. When the U.K. celebrated Mother's Day last Sunday, March 27, her teenager could not look at her. Janse said her son was uncomfortable about the tiny red holes on her face.
Per Daily Mail, plasma fibroblast therapy is a new type of cosmetic treatment and is touted as the alternative to injections or lasers for improving the skin's appearance. It works for acne scars, age spots, and the wrinkled skin around the eyes, the lips, the jawlines, and the neck.
The procedure takes less than 20 minutes to finish using a fibroblast pen that targets the skin cells, producing collagen and protein. The pen emits a current and heat that creates the red holes on the epidermis or the skin's top layers.
This results in the breaking down of skin tissues to regenerate and make the skin tighter, but it also means that the skin has to be given time to heal to avoid pigmentation and scarring. Janse couldn't wash her face for at least five days after the procedure, lest the swelling could worsen.
She advised other moms or women to consider the healing time for this procedure and not simply rely on the after shots of promotional materials. She also said that since it is the fibroblast, there's a slight skin-burning smell during the treatment.
A 3-Month Healing Time
According to Wales Online, Janse won't see the full results of her procedure until three months. However, despite her pain and shock and the comical reaction from her family, Janse said that she had noticed some improvements as the swelling slowly subsided.
The mother said that she was banking on plasma fibroblast therapy to work because it is expensive compared to other anti-aging cosmetic treatments. Janse noted that she's not aiming to change her looks, but she went for it since she has the means to make improvements.
