The good news keeps on coming for Britney Spears. Months after the pop star escaped the legal arrangement that gave her father, Jamie, control over many aspects of her life, Spears announced that she was pregnant with her third child.
NPR reported that Spears revealed the news on the social media platform Instagram, telling her 40 million followers that she would be having her first baby with her fiancée Sam Asghari. The 40-year-old singer, who has two teenage sons, also divulged that she suffered depression during her previous pregnancy.
Spears grabbed the headlines in June of last year when she told a judge that her conservatorship prevented her from marrying or removing her birth control. Spears previously said she wanted to start a family with Asghari, her 28-year-old personal trainer.
Spears announces pregnancy months after conservatorship ends
The form of legal guardianship known as conservatorship that her father set up in 2008 after Spears experienced a public mental health crisis prevented the Grammy winner from making her own decisions about her medical care.
When speaking against the conservatorship last year in court, Spears said that the legal arrangement placed on her included control over her own reproductive health. She made a bombshell revelation, saying, "I have an [IUD] inside of myself right now, so I don't get pregnant... but this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have children."
According to the BBC, Spears said that this conservatorship is doing her way more harm than good. Spears added that she wanted to be able to get married and have a baby, but she was told that she would not be able to do so.
On Monday, she said in her Instagram post that she wouldn't be going out as much to avoid paparazzi photographers, who surely would want to take pictures of a pregnant Britney Spears.
Spears reveals she had perinatal depression in the past
Spears also expects her pregnancy to be hard as she had previously experienced perinatal depression. That is a medical term for depression which occurs any time between the woman becoming pregnant to about a year after she gives birth, according to Us Weekly.
Spears said that medical condition was horrible and rarely talked about in the past as some people considered it dangerous for a woman to complain like that with a baby inside her. The singer said she was grateful that it was no longer necessary to keep such pain a secret.
Spears has two kids from her marriage to Kevin Federline - Sean Preston Federline, 16, and Jayden James Federline, 15. Spears concluded her post positively, saying, "This time, I will be doing yoga every day !!! Spreading lots of joy and love !!!"
