Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, made a sad announcement on social media on Monday, April 18, revealing on Instagram and Twitter that their newborn son had died.
The couple said that it is with their deepest sadness they have to announce that their baby boy has passed away, and it is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. The Portugal and Manchester United star had announced that he and Rodriguez were expecting twins back in October. Ronaldo and Rodriguez then announced back in December that they were expecting a boy and a girl.
Tragedy struck the couple, though, as their beloved son passed away. According to a report by CNN, they wrote on social media that only the birth of their baby girl gives them the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez devastated by the death of baby boy
Ronaldo and Rodriguez added that they would like to thank the doctors and nurses for their expert care and support. The couple said they were devastated by the loss and kindly asked for privacy for this very difficult time. They concluded their statement by saying that their baby boy was their angel and that they would always love him.
The Daily Mail reported that tributes came pouring in for Ronaldo and Rodriguez after news broke of their son's death. Manchester United led the tributes, saying on Twitter that Ronaldo's pain was their pain. The English Premier League also tweeted their support for the grieving soccer star, writing that the thoughts and condolences of everyone at the Premier League were with Ronaldo and his family.
Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, also offered her condolences on Instagram, writing that she loves her brother with all her heart. Aveiro added that their little angel is already in their father's lap, and their little girl, who is here firm and strong and full of health, will teach them more and more that only love matters.
