Two people have been charged following the stabbing of a toddler, a police chase, and a crash on Monday, April 18, in Blue Springs, Missouri. Officers with the Blue Springs Police Department told KCTV that a vehicle driven by Tabatha Ong was involved in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 40 Highway and Missouri 7 Highway around 5:30 a.m.

Blue Springs police were originally dispatched to that area to investigate a crash that involved a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Ong was not deterred by the crash as he continued to drive off in an effort to evade police. Officers reported seeing the Chevy Cobalt fleeing northbound on 7 Highway once police arrived at the scene.

The vehicle, which was driving on a damaged tire and rim, indicated it would pull over for police before taking off again with the passengers trying to evade arrest. According to police, the car at times was driving as fast as 60 miles per hour in a zone that has a speed limit of 35 miles per hour.

Officers noted in charging documents that the car was weaving in and out of traffic during the police chase, according to a report by KMBC. The car even ran a red light at 7 Highway and Mock Avenue. The driver of the car finally proceeded under a 7 Highway overpass, before turning east onto Northwest Shaw Parkway and coming to a stop.

Anthony Beighley-Beck, who was in the passenger seat of the car at the time, pulled his young son onto his lap and stabbed the toddler in the abdomen during the police chase. Case documents stated that when officers approached the car with guns drawn, they saw a woman in the driver's seat with her hands up, as well as a man in the passenger seat with his hands up.

What caught their attention, though, was a young child who was in the man's lap. He was crying hysterically with a large open wound on his abdomen. According to court documents that was released on Tuesday, April 19, the 24-year-old Beighley-Back told detectives the reason why he stabbed his son was that he feared his kid would end up with relatives who would abuse him.

Charges filed against Missouri couple

That logic is flawed to say the least as Beighley-Beck himself was the one who put his son in danger with his actions. The 18-month-old boy was rushed to Children's Mercy Hospital after the attack, where he underwent emergency surgery to treat his stab wounds. He still remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

WKYT reported that both Beighley-Beck and Ong were arrested after the police chase ended just north of I-70 near 7 Highway. Ong is charged with endangering the welfare of a child while Beighley-Beck has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Beighley-Beck is being held without bond in the Jackson County Detention Center. A bond of $50,000 has been set for Ong.
