Stephanie Gunia, a single mom with three kids, accidentally lost everything she owned after a moving crew cleans the wrong apartment at her new place in Nebraska.

After picking up her kids at school, Gunia was looking forward to relaxing at home but she immediately noticed that something was off when their doormat was missing. When she unlocked the door, the mom and her children were shocked to see their apartment stripped of everything they owned.

Gunia suspected they were the target of burglars, as new residents in the area. So, she reported what happened to the apartment manager, who phoned the police. The cops came to inspect the "burglary" but did not notice any signs of forced entry.

A few minutes later, a neighbor came by and informed Gunia that there were people inside their unit early in the day, who were taking out their stuff to the dumpster. True enough, Gunia and her kids found their items, their clothes, and their grocery items at the back of the complex. Everything was mixed up, with some of the goo from the trash getting into the children's toys and clothes.

"My kids were crying because they were scared," Gunia told KETV7. "They don't know why somebody threw their stuff away in a trash can."

Apartment Management Apologizes for the Mistake

After talking to the staff at the apartment complex, the management soon realized that the moving crew they hired cleaned the wrong apartment. According to Daily Mail, the movers were supposed to work in the unit of another tenant who owed rent and was evicted from the complex that day.

Richdale, the management, said in a statement that they coordinated with the Gunia family and were able to retrieve most of their possessions from the dumpster. They also committed to replacing items that could no longer be fixed. Gunia and her kids also received a $250 gift card.

However, the mother said that this will not erase her children's trauma. She said that one of her kids, who has autism and ADHD, is scared to go back inside the apartment. They also won't be comfortable sleeping in soiled mattresses that were taken back from the dumpster.

The single mom also called out the management because the new cleaners they promised to assist them never showed up. Gunia said that some of their items were never actually recovered as well, including the cash she had stashed at home.

Single Mom Might File Lawsuit

Meanwhile, according to the GoFundMe created for the family, Gunia has talked to a lawyer about filing a lawsuit against the moving crew who cleaned the wrong apartment and the apartment management. Apparently, after their initial committment to help, Gunia said that the management stopped responding to them.

As of press time, the fundraiser for the family has reached over $4,000 with nearly 100 people sending their donations. One of the donors said that she contributed to the fundraiser because she understands the struggles of a single mom raising three children.
