Esther George feared for the longest time that she would not be able to have a baby as she was diagnosed at the age of 16 with endometriosis. According to Mayo Clinic, it is a medical condition which causes scarring to build up in the fallopian tubes making it difficult for a woman to fall pregnant.

George waited eight years for a referral from the National Health Service (NHS) to get some help with her condition, which medics claimed was so severe that there was no chance of her ever having a baby in the future. Much to George's dismay, an NHS referral never materialized.

George was finally able to have fertility treatment after paying for a private consultation and undergoing extensive surgery. The prayers of George and her agricultural services manager husband Andrew have now been answered with the couple now proud parents to a baby son named Caleb.

Esther's womb was uninhabitable

Esther, who is a 32-year-old marketing manager from Hull City said that they have been waiting such a long time for Caleb, and now that he is here, they can't quite believe it. She added that they look at him every day and know what a miracle he really is. The couple thought they would never be parents, so now they feel incredibly blessed with his arrival.

The road to having miracle baby Caleb began in September 2016, eight years after she first sought help from the NHS. Esther scheduled an appointment then with a consultant, who later on carried out the surgery to remove all the scarring from her womb.

George told the Express that her surgery was a long operation as there was so much scarring, and the doctor had to remove it all by hand. The doctor who performed the operation told Esther that her womb had been uninhabitable before, so there really was no chance of her having a baby before the surgery.

COVID-19 delays couple's fertility plans

Esther and her husband Andrew had to wait 18 months after surgery whilst her body recovered from the operation. The couple wanted to start IVF treatment back in 2020, but they could not because of the lockdown brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To make matters worse for the couple, Andrew caught the coronavirus as well, so it was not until March of last year that they started the IVF treatment at Hull and East Riding Fertility. According to the Yorkshire Post, doctors managed to retrieve six eggs from Esther, five fertilized, and one embryo was placed into her womb.

George said that it was a tense two-week wait, and then she did a pregnancy test and it had two positive lines on it. George said that she could not believe that she was actually pregnant and the feeling was amazing, given all they had been through.

Esther's pregnancy went smoothly until she was 36 weeks, and doctors said they could not find the heartbeat of her baby. An emergency caesarean was planned by doctors before the baby's heartbeat was found, only for Esther to go into labor just a few days later.

Esther gave birth to Caleb in January but delivering him was not easy as she started to hemorrhage, forcing her to lose three and a half liters of blood. Her life was saved after a blood transfusion.
