Kimberly Alarcon made history on Monday, April 25, becoming one of the few persons in the world to have three sets of spontaneous twins. Doctors put the odds of that happening at 1 in 200,000, making Alarcon one of a kind.

The 37-year-old welcomed her third set of fraternal twins at Westchester Medical Center. Newborn sisters Kenzley and Kenzy joined siblings Brittney, 17; Sarah, 13; Hunter, 10; Zachary, 6; Zoey, 6; Olivia, 4; Oliver, 4; and King, 3, in Alarcon's growing family.

According to News 12, Alarcon first gave birth to three children individually. Then in her fourth pregnancy, Alarcon found out that she was expecting twins. She became pregnant again with twins three years later.

Twins just keep on coming for Kimberly Alarcon

Alarcon was pregnant for the sixth time and expected triplets in 2021. She miscarried one baby early in the pregnancy, though, leading her to the birth of another set of twins. Kimberly and her husband John also have three other kids and took in one of their nephews, making them a big family of 10.

Alarcon and her newborn twins will be discharged on Thursday, April 28. The lives of the Alarcon family might be hectic, but they would not have it any other way. Alarcon told TODAY Parents that their home is full of love and that they have good days and bad days just like any other family. Alarcon added that they just take it one day at a time.

It is not a complete surprise to see Kimberly raise a very large family. She grew up with 18 siblings, with her mother having ten biological children and then adopting eight more kids. Alarcon said that having a packed house is normal for her. She added that not only were there 18 of them, but they also had their friends coming over, so sometimes they had 30 kids over at their home once.

Alarcon said that her husband, John, a detective, has no qualms about them having many children. She said that John was raised with just one brother and always yearned for a big family. Alarcon said that it is a handful, but they are grateful. Alarcon even joked in the interview that her husband would be happy to keep having more and more children.

Silber amazed by Alarcon's twin three-peat

Factors that increase the chance of a couple conceiving twins without fertility drugs include the woman being over the age of 35, higher BMI, and having a history of twins on the mother's side.

Dr. Angela Silber, the chief of maternal-fetal medicine at Westchester Medical Center, said that what Alarcon did is pretty incredible as having three sets of twins back-to-back without medication or any intervention is highly unusual. Silber told NBC New York that she had never seen anything like it in her 20 years at the medical center.

According to Dr. Michael Cackovic, an associate professor of maternal-fetal medicine at The Ohio State University, about 50 in a thousand are twin births in Igbo-Ora, Nigeria. Cackovic said that their makeup is that they super ovulate, meaning they ovulate more than one egg.
