Moonbug Entertainment has launched the "Cocomelon" spinoff featuring the best friend of JJ, Cody Green. The global entertainment company debuted the first episode of the musical show Wednesday, May 11, on its YouTube channel.
Cody Green has been part of the original series since its inception in 2019. The character is not only JJ's best friend but also his neighbor and classmate.
Patrick Reese, the general manager of Moonbug Entertainment, stated in the press release, via aNb Media, that Cody Green has been a "fan favorite" for millions of its young viewers. Thus, the "Cocomelon" spinoff, "It's Cody Time," will give the kids a chance to get to know the character and his family a bit better.
"It's Cody Time" Similar to "Cocomelon"
The new show will follow the same format as the original series and still revolve around childhood milestones and achievements. The first episode finds Cody discovering some mysterious changes in his household. The second episode will center on Cody's preparation as a big brother as his mother, Toni, is about to give birth.
According to Moonbug Entertainment, Cody's story arc will be about his responsibilities as an older sibling. However, much of the show will also feature the Green family's background as Jamaicans and Ghanaians. Reese said that it's important to have a solid representation on the show. Parents can expect that their kids will also be introduced to a more diverse set of characters in the spinoff series, as well as interesting storylines that will be relatable to all children around the world.
The producers are confident that "It's Cody Time" will generate a lot of views just like "Cocomelon," which has more than 6.1 billion views and over 340 million subscribers on YouTube. It's unclear, for now, if the spinoff series will also become available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Roku.
"Cocomelon" became popular with toddlers because of its colors, music and its repetitive premise. However, some parents have complained about its rapid transitions per scene that some have described as "tiny dopamine hits," according to The Age. Though the claim sparked a debate among parents, "Cocomelon" remained one of the top 10 shows kids watched, especially during the pandemic.
Aside from "It's Cody Time," Moonbug Entertainment is also working on "Cocomelon Lane," another spinoff that will be exclusive to Netflix. The show has also branched out to Spotify for its podcast.
"Bluey" Official Word on Cancellation
Meanwhile, another popular children's show, "Bluey" has been rumored to be up for cancellation. The cartoon series from Australia, which has recently hit U.S. shores, has been running for three seasons when talks about its end have led to a lot of speculations on social media.
Apparently, the voice actor for "Bluey" has matured and no longer sounds like a child and the producers are said to be hesitant to re-cast a new voice actor as it will ruin the legacy of the show. In an exclusive interview on Daily Mail, however, the producers of the show said that the stories going around are inaccurate.
The lack of updates, however, isn't due to a possible cancellation but it is SOP for the producers to finish a current running season before they work on the next season. Right now, "Bluey" is in the middle of its third season run. The producers also posted on social media that they have no plans of ending the show yet.
"Bluey" launched in 2018 to become the most popularly downloaded series in Australia. In the U.S., the series runs on Disney+ streaming platform.
