A frustrated husband shared his thoughts on the Reddit Forum "True Off My Chest" and discussed why he decided to file a divorce from their wife. The user, u/Side_Salty, wrote in his post that he was divorcing his wife because she had been late for 90 percent of everything they have done together.
He admitted that everyone they know was shocked, but he does not care. The post has garnered more than 18,000 votes.
Chronically late
The Redit user wrote that they were married for 12 years, but throughout their relationship, she did not attempt to be on time for their activities together, Newsweek reported.
When they were dating, he said that the average wait was 15 minutes to an hour for her to show up finally. He added that he waited because he loved her. The delay continued until they got married and had children.
He noted that his wife's lateness affected several instances, such as searching for a preschool for their son.
One time, they planned to watch a concert that he was excited to see. He and his son were at the venue an hour early, but his wife who was suppose to meet them there was running late. And that was when he he reached his tipping point. They later learned that she was running late because she suddenly decided to start vacuuming the house.
As per his post on Redditor, he does not regret the divorce, admitting that he has had enough. He got calls from mutual friends and family when she told everyone that they were getting a divorce. He said everyone wanted to talk him out of it. But, he admitted that there was no turning back.
Support for frustrated husband
Commenters rushed to express their support for the husband and shared their own stories. A commenter shared that his ex was frequently late, so he usually lied about the event's timing. He added that when they arrived at the place right on time, she would get mad, like she wanted to waste more time.
Another commented that they had a friend who was always late and would leave for an event around the time they were supposed to meet. Over time, however, their friend improved.
One Reddit said that she has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and admitted that they are chronically late. She, however, supported her husband, who lies to her about the timing of an event. The Reddit commenter said she cares a lot about the time, contrary to what others think. But she admitted that, especially for an important event, she would end up running even later and will be on the verge of panic and tears as she readies herself.
As per ADDitude, a person with ADHD can have a time management problem. Psychiatrist Donald Davis, M.D., said that after years of counseling with ADHD, he learned of their behavior problems like procrastination, missing deadlines, underestimating the time needed for tasks or trips, or doing things in the wrong order. While missed appointments may seem unimportant for someone with ADHD, it matters most in relationships.
