'Captain Marvel' Movie Casting: Ronda Rousey Next Fight Is As A Superhero? Kevin Feige Talks Possible Involvement [Details]

Undefeated UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey does pack a punch in the ring, but will her campaigning for another role succeed?

IGN reports that the MMA fighter and actress has showed that she really wants to play the role of Marvel superhero Captain Marvel, first expressing that desire in a Reddit AMA, then posting fan art that portrayed her as Miss Marvel.

Rousey is not the only one to lobby for that role, and such campaigning is something that Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, actually likes.

“I love it," said Feige in an interview. "That happens occasionally, and I think that’s a testament more to the strength of the characters."

"Going back to my early days at Marvel, there were always various people campaigning to be Wolverine," he reminisces. "I guess that was pre-Twitter and pre-Internet days, but still for some reason would pop up in Wizard Magazine. Wizard Magazine would always have ‘this person wants to play this role!’ It’s a testament to how great the characters are that it appeals to such a wide range of talented, talented people.”

Heroic Hollywood reports that there could be a possibility that she could be cast as Captain Marvel.

“You look at the ways we’ve cast our films in the past and it’s always about who’s the best person to inhabit the character," Feige explained, "whether that is an actor like Chris Hemsworth who bulks up, or a wrestler like Dave Bautista who played Drax who ends up being an amazing performer, an amazing actor and a clever and witty and pointed comedic actor."

"For us, it’s sitting down with people and starting to meet people and as the script takes shape and as we start to build who the character should be and finding the right person to match it up," he adds. "We haven’t necessarily started sitting down with people yet and meeting on that part.”

Supposing that the studio does sit down with Rousey and she wins the coveted role, this will add to her list of movie appearances. She appeared in some films, such as The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and Entourage. Currently, she is set to appear in MGM's Road House remake, and her own personal biopic My Fight/Your Fight.

Feige, however, said that the lead for the movie won't be cast until early 2016, according to Comic Book Resources.

"Captain Marvel" is scheduled for release on November 2, 2018.
