'Star Wars Episode 7' Trailer & Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Talks About Role; Reunion With Rian Johnson Confirmed?

Many fans are getting excited to return to the galaxy far, far away. Soon, the said world will be brought to life by the anticipated film "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens." While "Star Wars: Episode 7" is still on the way, there's already a talk about "Star Wars: Episode 8."

It's confirmed that Rian Johnson will be helming the next franchise of "Star Wars" and many are wondering if the cast will include the "Brick" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

According to CinemaBlend, Gordon-Levitt and Johnson had an effective tandem in their previous projects. In fact, as the report puts it, the pair "enjoyed a rise to fame that few truly get to enjoy." They strengthened their partnership with a cameo in "The Brother's Bloom" and in another film "Looper."

With their success, fans can't help but associate Gordon-Levitt to the director and vice versa. The publication had a chance to talk with Gordon-Levitt at the New York Film Festival when he was promoting his recent film "The Walk". They asked him if there was a possibility for the duo to reunite in "Star Wars: Episode 8."

"Of course! I knock on his door every day, and I'm like, 'Am I in the movie yet? Am I in the movie yet? Dude! No, seriously dude. It's important to me! I want to be in the movie!' [Shrugs] We'll see," said Gordon-Levitt.

The report suggests that the statement wasn't a simple plea for the actor to wield a lightsaber or take on a blaster and kick some ass. His request was full of charm and seems to be straight from his heart. Many believe that the actor should be one of the good guys. The production team can align with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and new comers like Finn and Rey.

Meanwhile, for those wondering about the difference between the core "Star Wars" movies and its spin-off movies, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy addressed it.

"The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga," Kennedy said. "The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. 'The Force Awakens' follows 'Return of the Jedi' and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "continues that generational story" suggests that "The Force Awakens" and its subsequent movies "Star Wars: Episode 8" and "Star Wars: Episode 9" will feature a new generation of Skywalkers beyond Luke (Mark Hamil) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). There are rumors that Daisy Ridley's character will be Leia and Han Solo's daughter.

"Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" will premiere on Dec. 18. On the other hand, "Star Wars: Episode 8" is slated for a 2017 release.
