Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards in the NBA. Off the court, the Golden State Warriors superstar is known for his deep Christian faith as well as his impressive charity work, according to Marca.
The basketball icon's mom, Sonya, made a stunning revelation, though, saying that she nearly aborted Steph 34 years ago. The mother of three made the big reveal in her book, Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose. Sonya explained that she became pregnant again with Steph after having an abortion back in high school.
According to a report in the Daily Citizen, Sonya said she felt the Holy Spirit intervene as she was about to enter a Planned Parenthood clinic for an abortion. Sonya said that God had a plan for that child and Wardell Stephen Curry II would not have existed if she had gone through that procedure.
Sonya tells all in her book 'Fierce Love'
Things happen for a reason and the basketball star's mom now has been able to share her story with many others, inspiring them to make tough and difficult decisions in their own lives.
Sonya issued a statement that was published by People, saying that she wrote Fierce Love to share her story, testimony, and experience so that others may find strength and purpose in their own journeys. Sonya added that she wants to encourage others to pray continuously, live intentionally, love fiercely, and laugh daily!
Sonya Curry has three kids with NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry, including basketball stars Stephen and Seth, and daughter Sydel Curry-Lee. Sonya grabbed the headlines last year when she divorced Dell after 33 years of marriage. In addition to raising three successful children, Sonya founded and ran the Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman in the state of North Carolina. She also currently co-hosts the Raising Fame podcast.
Fierce Love tells Sonya's story, beginning with her childhood in rural Virginia and moving through the peaks and valleys of an incredible life, from raising her immensely gifted but sometimes headstrong kids, to becoming an educator and founding a Montessori school in North Carolina, to then discovering a profound, life-sustaining spiritual connection to her faith.
Steph, Seth and Sydel proud of their mother
Steph, Seth, and Sydel have already expressed their love and support for their mom's new endeavor. Steph said in a statement that from the beginning, his mom has been a rock of encouragement, faith, discipline, and gratitude for him and his siblings. He is currently playing in the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.
Seth also mentioned his mom's help when they were children, saying in a press release that his mother was always the one to challenge them while growing up. The Brooklyn Nets star added that you can see her greatest qualities in each and every one of them.
Sydel also paid tribute to her mother, saying "I can't wait for everyone to meet my mom through her powerful story. My mom has been such a pillar for our family."
