When John Cena, the former WWE superstar who is now a Hollywood box office star, learned how 19-year-old Misha Rohozhyn, who is non-verbal with Down syndrome, was convinced to flee war-torn Ukraine with his mother, the actor had to arrange to meet him face-to-face.
Liana Rohozhyn had to tell her son they needed to travel to Europe because his wrestling hero was going to meet them. Liana had to tell that white lie to calm her son with Down syndrome; otherwise, they would not be able to leave their home in Mariupol, which Russian soldiers had destroyed amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
According to People, Cena was also in Europe filming his next movie and used the production break to hop on a plane to Amsterdam so he could fulfill what Liana told her son. Cena and Misha met on Sunday, June 5, where they ate cake together and spent time building some blocks.
"Thank you for giving me strength!"
Cena then re-shared the video of their meeting from WWE to his own Twitter account. The superstar said he was genuinely impressed with Misha and his mom for embracing persistence amid their refugee struggles.
The actor also gifted Misha with a similar green shirt he wore during the meeting. It had the words "never give up" on it that defined what the Rohozhyn had gone through.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Cena was very moved by his visit with the non-verbal teenager with Down syndrome. The wrestler thanked the 19-year-old for giving him strength before parting with a hug. On the other hand, Liana was truly grateful for Cena and said that the actor had a big heart.
Sources said that Cena found out about Misha and his mother after reading stories of refugees with disabilities. He knew that Misha was very disappointed when he arrived from Ukraine to The Netherlands in May, and there was no Cena.
Does John Cena Have Kids?
This was not the first instance Cena made someone's wish come true. The celebrity is a staunch supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants kids their dreams and desires. To date, he said that he had fulfilled 650 wishes for sick children.
But while promoting his TV show, "Peacemaker," Cena said in an interview with Drew Barrymore that he's not yet ready to have his own children, even if the young ones are so drawn to him. The superstar said that if he wants to become a brilliant dad, he must focus on his children. However, Hollywood has been beckoning, so his priority is his work right now.
He does not think he's ready to be a dad just yet, but he will have his own children in due time. Cena has been married to Shay Shariatzadeh, an engineer, since 2020. This is his second marriage, per Parade.
