One of Elon Musk's kids had petitioned a court in California to recognize her new name and gender, saying she no longer wishes to be related to her wealthy and famous father in any way, shape, or form.
Musk's daughter made the decision after turning 18 earlier this year. She made the filing with a county court in Los Angeles, requesting that her legal name be changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson. According to CNN, Wilson is the last name of her mom, Justine Wilson, Musk's ex-wife and the mother of five of his seven children.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is the wealthiest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $214 billion. He has been criticized for some of his statements regarding gender identity issues on the social media platform Twitter.
Musk posts controversial tweets regarding gender identity
He posted a tweet since deleted in December 2020 that said, "When you put he/him in your bio" alongside a drawing of a soldier in the 18th century rubbing blood on his face in front of a pile of dead bodies and wearing a cap that read "I love to oppress."
Musk responded to criticism of that tweet, writing, "I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare." Musk also pointed out that his company Tesla had scored a 100 percent rating from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as being one of the "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality." Tesla has managed to retain that 100 percent score in HRC's 2022 rankings, according to Yahoo.
Musk has also said on Twitter that he is leaning toward supporting the 2024 presidential election of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who recently pushed for and signed legislation, known by critics as the Don't Say Gay law, to limit discussions of trans and homosexuality issues in the state's public schools.
News of Musk's daughter's filing broke on social media over the weekend, in stories in the Los Angeles Times, and on celebrity news site The Blast on Monday, June 20. There is a hearing for the case set for this coming Friday. Musk tweeted Father's Day greetings early Sunday, followed by another tweet saying, "I love all my kids so much."

Is the Musk deal for Twitter still on?
Musk and Twitter have been grabbing the headlines recently, with the Tesla CEO looking to buy the social media platform for $44 billion. That is a mega acquisition with huge implications, given Musk's contentious stance on freedom of speech and content moderation.
The fate of the blockbuster deal has become more uncertain in recent weeks, though, after Musk threatened to walk away, citing concerns over the number of fake accounts on Twitter. According to CNBC, the celebrity billionaire could face a $1 billion breakup fee and possibly even lawsuits if he were to abandon the deal.
