Chris Daughtry has opened up about his grief over his stepdaughter, Hannah Price, who died by suicide in November 2021. Days before Price's death, the singer was already grieving another loss as his mom, Sandra Daughtry, died of cancer.
In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday, June 22, Daughtry acknowledged that he went through two kinds of grieving processes for his stepdaughter and mother. One death was expected because Sandra had been battling the disease for some time, and he was able to say a proper goodbye to his mother. On the other hand, Price's death was a shock to him and his wife, Deanna Daughtry.
Both deaths, however, filled Chris with guilt because he now realized he should have done and said more, especially to Price, who was struggling with a mental illness and substance abuse.
"I wish I would've called more," the grieving father told Clarkson, adding that he tends to beat himself up when he's riddled with these "moments of guilt."

Healing with His Family
Two months after the deaths, Chris spoke with Loudwire Nights as he resumed his rescheduled tour. He said he went through a healing process with his family and took a break from everything, including social media.
Daughtry said, however, that his sadness over the losses will "never go away," but the break allowed him to process what went on and deal with his emotions in private. It also helps that he's putting his energy into the songs he's performing on the stage.
Price was Deanna's daughter from another relationship. Deanna also has a son, Griffin, who is now 23 years old. Chris and Deanna met in 2000 when Hannah and Griffin were barely of school age. The couple has two other kids together, twins Adalynn Rose and Noah James, who were born in 2010, thus making them a family of six.
While Price was active on social media, she managed to stay under the radar as the stepdaughter of one of the more popular singers on "American Idol." She was also a mother, leaving two young kids, Liam and Lilly, when she passed away.
Price was in a relationship before her death, but it's unclear if the man is also the children's father. Though there were rumors that her death was a homicide, Deanna set the record straight and confirmed that Price died by suicide.
Hannah Price's Troubled Past
In a statement to People, Deanna acknowledged that her daughter was in and out of abusive relationships. She was also a victim of a violent crime that left her with a gunshot wound on her face.
Deanna had planned for Hannah to get into treatment closer to the Daughtry family before the tragedy struck. On the morning of her death, it was alleged that Hannah and her boyfriend were in a fight, but the police, the Fentress County Sheriff's Office, and the Regional Forensic Center, eventually ruled that there was no foul play when her body was found at her home.
