A courageous mom reported her son to the police after she found red flags that her son was planning on killing her and a mass shooting in the school.

Nichole Schubert recalled that she was cleaning her home in 2019 when she found her son's journal with plans that outlined how he would kill her and her boyfriend at home and then attack Washington High School. The boy was 17 at the time, Daily Mail says.

In her interview with "Good Morning America, " she said the plan was "very descriptive." It was genuinely heartbreaking that she did not want to know the details.

Per the police report, the young man had written that he should kill everyone, fight to the death or kill himself after "maximum damage has occurred. He planned to execute his evil plans on April 20, 2020, the day of the Columbine shooting's 20th anniversary.

The mom admitted that reading the journal hurts, and it still does. After all, she gave birth to and cared for him.

Schubert turned over her son's notebook to the police and told them that she had also previously found what she thinks is a homemade pipe bomb in her son's room. Her son said his writings were just a fantasy, not a real plan. Still, police arrested him, and he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of threatening to bomb or injure property and misdemeanors for harassment.

Her son was prohibited from going to school, underwent mental evaluation, and completed a rehabilitation program and community service afterward.

Safer in jail

Schubert said that her initial instinct was to protect her son. Per MEAWW, she had an intense inner battle before calling the police hours after making the discovery. However, at that point, she felt he would be safer in jail if he did such a thing.

She added that it was not just her son. It suddenly became an entire school involving hundreds of people and children.

Almost three years after her startling discovery, Schubert said she does not regret reporting her son, knowing she saved lives. Schubert noted that the heartbreaking decision saved the lives of others and her son's own life. The mom admitted that her son, now 20, remains upset with her, but she believes that his life is back on track after the intervention.

Today, she shared that her son is seeking assistance to cope with his depression, working, and aspiring to attend college. Since the arrest, she said her son had not had trouble with the law.

A call for other parents

In the wake of the recent mass shootings, Schubert called on all parents to pay attention to warning signs. She advised parents to stay in business, even if they do not like it, ABC 11 reports.

Lastly, she advised parents to pray for their kids to help them make the right choices.
