A video of a seven-year-old girl who missed her dad and burst into tears when seeing him on a video call at a day care facility in China has gone viral. Li Yanxi, who hails from Suzhou in Jiangsu, eastern China, had been sent to a day care center for the summer holidays, according to a report by video platform Nuan Video.
A teacher had organized an online video meeting last week to let parents meet each other and observe a class in progress. When Yanxi saw her dad wearing a safety helmet and a worker's uniform on the screen with other parents, she became upset, according to the South China Morning Post.
The girl called her father in a sweet-sounding voice when she saw him on the screen, saying "Daddy!" The girl's eyes were soon filled with tears. When her teacher asked her why that was the case, she said she was missing her father and worried about him so much.
Young girl worried that her father works too hard
The teacher asked the young student in the video why she is missing her father and how long since she last saw him. Yanxi was sobbing when she replied, saying that it is not because she has not seen him for a long time but because she is concerned that he works too hard and becomes too tired.
According to the girl, her mother is a stay-at-home mom while her dad is an electrician and often works overtime. She said that he starts work between 4 and 5 a.m every day. She added that sometimes she is awake at those times and she hopes her father would stay healthy.
The video has proven to be a hit on the internet, with the clip being viewed 6.5 million times on the short video platform Douyin. Many viewers said the little girl's concern for her father was touching, according to the Madison Leader Gazette.

More Chinese parents want to have little padded jackets
The girl's father Li Mingxing said in an interview with Nuan Video that he hopes his daughter will be healthy and happy every day. The video also attracted positive comments on Weibo with one person writing that she cried when seeing this video.
Another user commented that the young girl is so adorable and she also wants such a "little padded jacket," a term used to refer to a daughter. The public commonly call daughters with that term in mainland China for being close to the body with the perceived ability to provide warmth and comfort and that they understand their parents' hearts. Sons, who are generally deemed insensitive, are often called "leather overcoat" in China because they can keep parents from "wind and rain" when there are difficulties affecting them.
Although traditional Chinese parents prefer to have sons for various reasons including that it is their obligation to take care of their parents when they grow old, a growing number of couples are trying in recent years to have daughters instead.
