Cassie Walton's buy list for her soon-to-be kindergartener's school supplies was out of the ordinary to say the least. Apart from getting a fresh pack of crayons and notebooks for her five-year-old son, she also had on the top of her shopping list a bulletproof backpack for him.
The 23-year-old told TODAY Parents that it makes her feel very sad that they have come to this as a country and she wishes she could be different. She added that she is most scared that something will happen to her son in a place where he is supposed to be the most safe.
To help prepare her young boy Weston to start school this year, Walton posted a video to social media platform TikTok where she coaches her kid through an active shooter situation. The Oklahoma mom asks her son in the now-viral video what he would do if someone says over the intercom at school that this is not a drill.
Walton makes key instructions to her son in case of school shooting
Weston, who was carrying his bulletproof Spiderman backpack, replied that he will get in the corner and be really quiet and still. Walton then asked Weston to show her how he will use his bulletproof backpack. The young child can be seen in the video putting the backpack over his head, according to KCRA.
Walton then questioned her son as to what he would do if the teacher told him that he does not need his backpack and that they should all get in the corner. Weston did not hesitate, telling his mom that he would tell the teacher that he needs it as it is bulletproof.
Walton then asked her kid what he would do if the police are outside the door of his classroom, but the shooter is still inside. Weston replied that will he say "I am here." Walton corrected her son after hearing that answer, saying that he should not say a word if the shooter is in there and that he needs to stay absolutely silent.

Walton leaves nothing to chance after Uvalde shooting
Walton finally asked her son what he would do if he managed to get outside the building. Weston replied that he would run home. Walton agreed with his answer, saying that he should run as far away from the school as he can go and that Mom will find him later.
Walton said that it was important to her that her son be prepared for a possible school shooting. The worried mom's actions come on the heels of the horrific mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas which killed many students at Robb Elementary School, according to KTVQ.
She said that she wanted Weston to be prepared and have somewhat of an idea of what to do if such a situation should ever arise. Walton's video has now gone viral, garnering nearly seven million views.
