Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of NBC News Today, plans to adopt a third child now that the pandemic is almost over. The broadcast journalist shared that her plans got delayed when COVID-19 hit. Now that the world is finally going back to normal, she is up with excitement to adopt again, Today reported.
"It's definitely in the universe for me. I have love and time, and we have an open space," the mother of two adopted daughters told People magazine for its "Family Issue."
Kotb and her ex-fiancee Joel Schiffman adopted their daughters Haley in February 2017 and Hope on April 19. She expressed that she wakes up and still has "pinch-me" moments recalling how her girls have made her dream of becoming a mom at the age of 52 come true, especially after battling breast cancer.
There is beauty in co-parenting, even after separation
Even after her separation from Schiffman earlier this year, Kotb proudly stated that they remain devoted and loving co-parents of Haley and Hope. She has no problem co-parenting with her former partner, who she described as a great dad.
"I don't regret one day, not one minute, not one second of our time together because it brought me here. I have two incredible children I share with him. And it's because of Joel that I have Haley and Hope, without question," she declared.
According to Page Six, the co-parents ensure that the kids see each of them weekly. On days that the girls are with their dad, she is at ease that they are doing something fun, which gives her some peace while doing some quiet time for herself.
She further described their co-parenting as a healthy mix, which the kids absolutely love.
How does Adoption Change Lives?
There are a lot of Americans who have the same heart as Kotb when it comes to adoption. As long as they can and as much as they can love, they would never think twice about adopting and doing it all over again. This is because blessings overflow and run from parents to the kid to birth parents.
"Adoption is beautiful and sacred. A bond between a mother and child need not rise from the fact that they share the same DNA. It is beneficial for everyone involved in this. The adopted child, the adopted parents, and the birth parents as well. This beautiful symbiotic relationship is something people don't appreciate or rather see," Wedding Wishlist stated.
Couples who are biologically unable to have a child of their own and parents who want to adopt despite having their own biological kids are the most family-planned couple, especially for those who have been trying and desiring for so long and have thought of and found solutions to various possibilities and difficulties. Moreso, they have so much love and care to give and are the most passionate about providing a child a home. It is a certainty that they can take the motto "No child is left behind," to a whole new level. Not only do these couples have so much happiness being parents of a special adopted kid, but their happiness surely would overflow to the kid.
Adoption also benefits the birth parents as the pressure and stress of unplanned pregnancy are taken away from their shoulders. They can be given a second chance to build their future and become better parents, and while they take the journey of a second chance, they have the peace of mind that their child will be taken care of.
Lastly, and most importantly, the child is saved from a life of growing up without a complete family or isolation in adoption homes. They can grow up to their full potential, reach for their dreams, and fulfill their purpose in life. They can live under a roof that warms them with so much love and grace from a complete family.
