Gaby Hagler, 39, and Patrick Hagler, 50, were surprised to know they would have four babies. The quadruplets doubled the size of the Texas family.
Gaby, a real estate broker, told Good Morning America (GMA) that they thought it was only two babies, but the ultrasound tech was thrilled as she counted the babies' limbs. The couple couldn't believe what the ultrasound tech told them, so Gaby asked if it was really four and asked what she counted. She pointed to the monitor and told the couple to look at it closely to see their babies. Only then did they believe they were welcoming quadruplets.
The chances of having quadruplets in the United States are about one in 800,000, while the chances of a set of identical quadruplets are one in 11 million to 15 million.
The fraternal quadruplets were born healthy on June 22, and their stepbrother Paxton, 12, Sammy, 2, and stepsister Kalleigh, 1, helped their parents with the name of the babies, which are Adam, Bennett, Coby, and Dane.
Hagler family welcomes the four rainbow babies
Although the Texas family couldn't believe they were having quadruplets, they were beyond glad and excited as they had previously experienced miscarriages.
The quadruplets were placed in two separate neonatal intensive care units (NICU) for several days. They were gradually put together in the intermediate-level NICU and were eventually released after a few days. Gaby said that the four babies have no complications or issues.
The Haglers only planned to have one more baby, but they all admitted that the quadruplets had transformed their lives, and they couldn't agree more. Patrick, a marriage and family therapist, said he just turned 50 with four babies when many his age is already grandparents. Still, he welcomed his quadruplets, and he thinks they energized him.
Patrick told ABC News that what happened was life-changing, and somehow he was a bit scared as the couple only financially planned for one more baby. The planning took time as they thought about things they would do before the quadruplets came into their lives. He admitted that it blew up the financial plan, but still manageable. He added it's frightening at first, but they will do everything for their rainbow babies.
Managing the financial plans for the quadruplets
The Haglers are now figuring out the routine as the financial plan changes. Gaby revealed to GMA that they go through an average of 45 diapers, more than 95 wipes, and approximately 12 to 24 bottles per day, with about nine hours committed each day to feeding, burping, changing, and doing all of the things that the quadruplets need.
They've also assigned the newborns their colors to tell them apart. The blue and giraffe theme is for Adam, Benneth with a green and sloth theme, Coby is white and panda theme, and Dane is given a gray and elephant theme.
The blended family was beyond happy after welcoming their quadruplets as they brought a different type of happiness, while the financial plan is important for babies as it will secure their future, per HeroFinCorp.
