An elementary school teacher from Maryland left his family vacation with memories to last a lifetime after winning $250,000 in the state lottery, according to Action News Jax.
According to a news release from the Maryland Lottery, the anonymous Baltimore County dad purchased the winning ticket while vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland. The 58-year-old purchased a $10 scratch-off in Maryland's Gold Rush game early in the morning.
When he discovered he had won the $250,000 jackpot prize, he immediately went home to tell his sleeping wife of their good fortune. The lucky teacher said in the release that the news was too exciting, so he had to wake her up to tell her he had won.
Baltimore dad also won in the Racetrax game last year
According to the release, the dad is on a winning streak as his win in the $250,000 Gold Rush game comes on the heels of his $10,000 win in Maryland's Racetrax game just last year. That Racetrax win pales compared to the jackpot prize he netted this time, with the teacher saying that this is light years beyond that win.
The lucky winner plans to use his massive prize to boost his retirement savings and help his two adult children, the release said. He called the prize he got from the scratch-off a nice bonus. He added that the winnings would give his family more security in the future.
The teacher and his family were not the only ones to benefit from the jackpot win. The Acme grocery store where he bought his winning ticket will also receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland lottery.
Two times lucky for Duane Ketterman in Maryland Lottery
Maryland has proven to be a lucky place for former winners. Delaware native Duane Ketterman can attest to that as he was lucky enough to win the lottery twice in just two months. The powerline technician regularly crosses the state line to work in Maryland. When he visits the state, he makes it a point to buy lottery tickets, according to a press release from the Maryland Lottery.
His purchases first paid off last month when he took home $18,000 in winnings in one of the Maryland Lottery's Racetrax games. Ketterman then grabbed another win earlier this month, nabbing $30,785 in another Racetrax game while on a family trip to Queen Anne's County, Maryland.
According to the news release, Ketterman told lottery officials while claiming his jackpot prize in Baltimore on Tuesday that he could not believe he won the first time, so when he saw this one, he was stunned.
Ketterman, who hails from Millsboro, Delaware, picked his winning numbers randomly, according to the release. The 43-year-old found out that he won again when his family stopped for breakfast, according to CNN.
He told officials that he has no immediate plan for his unexpected winnings. He said he hopes to put them away for a rainy day instead.
