When couples get married, it won't always be the happy ending they envisioned. After several years, a marriage might fail. Many would try to save the union if they could, while some realized that only a divorce could save them.
According to Very Well Mind, a marriage can be a blessing, but that doesn't mean that it won't break your heart, especially if you think you have reached the end of the road. There is no easy path to the decision to divorce. The journey through uncoupling varies.
Only the couple can decide whether to fix the relationship or it's time to divorce. If you're contemplating, there is relationship counseling that might work for the two of you to save the relationship. Hence, some couples who want to keep the relationship might stay in a loveless marriage. Some would remain as they are no longer interested in finding another woman or man, while others just got used to it.
Should you and your spouse save your marriage?
A marriage can only be saved when the couple stops thinking about themselves and instead focus on the relationship. In reality, some partners are selfish, as they tend to forget the relationship's status, which is one of the reasons marriage becomes rocky.
Dr. Joe Beam, the founder and chair of Marriage Helper, said that while some marriages end because both couples want out, most marriages have a partner who wants to save the marriage. Beam added that a marriage could be saved if there is hope that love can be renewed. Some have the mindset that marriage is a life-long commitment; thus, they stay as a couple as much as possible and save the relationship with all their might.
Rachel Russo, a New York City-based dating and relationship expert with more than ten years of experience as a matchmaker and relationship coach, has a Master's Degree in marriage and family therapy and says that some married couples make agreements regarding the relationship. Some would admit and acknowledge fault to be able to save the relationship and develop empathy for the other partner. Empathy helps one to find and keep love. Also, realize how the partner hurt the spouse in any way.
A marriage can only be saved if there is no violence inside the house or there is no abuse happening. If both couples want to work the relationship and save their marriage, they must change and adjust for the better. Woman's Day also suggests acknowledging that you are not a perfect individual, so there are times when you can commit mistakes, but that doesn't mean that you have to do nothing, work on it.
Should you and your partner divorce?
A lousy marriage can undoubtedly impact your health, especially if you don't feel your worth anymore, as physical, mental, verbal, and emotional abuse takes place. Staying in a toxic marriage only means tolerating the toxic things happening in your life, which only worsens things.
Staying with a person who hurts you in almost all aspects can do no good to you. When the relationship starts getting toxic, and you think you're now risking your health, it's time to end it. Marriage notes that divorce is better than staying with a person who will only hinder you from reaching your own goals in life. After divorce, you will surely notice tremendous changes in your mental and physical appearance. There will also be an improvement in your mood as things in your surrounding will be happier.
