A Michigan family of four who had not been seen or heard for days after the dad called 911 and exhibited paranoid behavior has been found safe in the state of Wisconsin, cops announced on Sunday, October 23.
According to WOOD of Grand Rapids, the police found the Cirigliano family at around 11 a.m. Sunday in Steven's Point, Wisconsin. Authorities interviewed all four family members and determined that they were safe.
The police department said that the family is still of the opinion that people are after them, but the elements of the investigation do not meet the criteria for them to be placed under protective custody. The department added that the family member requiring full-time care is now being cared for by other family members.
Police issued missing persons alert after family's disappearance
Fremont and Michigan State police previously said that family members had not heard from Anthony and Suzette Cirigliano, who are both 51 years old, or their two sons, Brandon, 19, and Noah, 15, since October 16. Their phone was also turned off, with their disappearances prompting both police departments to issue missing persons alert, according to NBC News.
According to police, the family was last spotted at a gas station in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in Gulliver. Cops said they were buying fuel and food. State police said that Anthony Cirigliano had displayed paranoid behavior on October 16, the last day other family members had heard from them.
Fremont Police Chief Tim Rodwell said that Anthony called 911 that day. When officers arrived at the home, he was talking about issues or information about the attacks on September 11th.
Police officers made sure everyone in the family was safe and OK. They also spent about an hour talking with the couple. Rodwell said that Anthony's views were abnormal to say and to make a police report of.
Dad showed extremely abnormal behavior
Before the officers left, they told both Anthony and Suzette to call the cops with any other issues, and they would be there to help. Rodwell said investigators did not have any evidence of foul play in a statement last week. He did say that everyone who knows the Cirigliano family was shocked by their sudden disappearance.
He said they described the family's disappearance as extremely abnormal behavior from Anthony and Suzette. Rodwell said an elderly relative suffering from dementia was found walking the neighborhood on Monday. The family was taking care of her before they vanished, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
State police said that the two teen sons who disappeared have autism. The family hails from Fremont, a town of around 4,500, located about 35 miles north of the city of Grand Rapids. Rodwell told the media outlet that the Ciriglianos had lived there for four years now. The family lived in the Jasper County area of South Carolina before that.
