Breastmilk jewelry is the most special, sentimental way to celebrate motherhood and her journey of unconditional love.
Anna Thachuk, the founder of Keepsake Mom, chatted with People about the best jewelry a mother could have and her experience creating "powerful keepsake pieces" for moms worldwide.
A mom who describes breastfeeding as her favorite and most special time of her life, Thachuk said that a breastfeeding jewelry could commemorate the "ultimate love," as the bond between a mother and a baby during breastfeeding times is beyond special.
"I can only speak from my own experience because I breastfed my own three children, and the experience was amazing. I know that some women do experience struggles. It's not an easy process, sometimes you encounter tough times, but the reward that you receive when you breastfeed is amazing," she said.
A beautiful reminder of one's breastfeeding journey
Thachuk first heard about the concept of breastmilk jewelry from her younger sister, who was breastfeeding five years ago. Her sister called her up and shared to her the idea.
Her sister wanted a keepsake to remember the precious time and bond with her baby during breastfeeding. She went online and was introduced to the idea of breastmilk jewelry. She got interested not just in getting herself a piece but in actually making herself one.
During that time, it was a new concept for the keepsake artist, as she had never heard of turning breastmilk into a powder that was then placed and incorporated into different jewelry pieces.
Right now, she admitted that she is grateful to her sister for introducing her to this unique, personal jewelry. She is incredibly happy that a lot are already embracing it. They would say it is strange at first, but when they know about it and realize how special it is, they become interested in honoring their unique breastfeeding experiences.
A mother who ordered from her stated how the jewelry was the perfect way to keep the memory of breastfeeding, which she called a "sacred time with my little one," close to her heart.
Curating process
Thachuk explained to People how she works with her clients to create for them an ideal piece, which does not only includes breastmilk but also their kid's handprints and footprints, a lock of hair, and other unique personalized items.
She narrated that as soon as the purchase is confirmed, they ship the collecting kits to the clients immediately the next day, along with the instructions on how to fill the collecting container.
Clients would need to send their collection back, and once received by her team, they are careful to label it.
The next step is turning the breastmilk into powder, which takes a few weeks. The team ensures that the powder is fine enough to be added to pre-prepared molds with resin. This is what they call the pouring process.
Once the keepsake piece is done, this is sent back to the client.
For mothers who are low on their milk supply, Thachuk emphasized that they need not worry and that they can still have their own breastmilk jewelry as the process does not require a lot of breastmilk in the first place.
