According to the Gov.UK, the Herbata magnetic polar pen construction set that can be brought from AliExpress (2206-0401) was recalled by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) due to the product's high risk of choking and internal injuries because of the existence of small parts received along with the said product and were also found to have an excessively high magnetic flux.

The product is a black cardboard box that has a mental component to make a pen. It has 13 magnetic components that make up the main body of the said item and as well as a tube of ink. A young child playing with such type of toys may put a tiny part from the toy into their mouth and parents may not soon notice in the time, allowing such a small part to block the child's airways.

The OPSS reported that the magnets found in the product have an excessively high magnetic flux that appears to be higher and greater than the maximum allowed by the relevant standard. Thus, the small high-powered magnetic items can be easily swallowed and when ingested, they can have the potential to cause serious and fatal internal injuries within the GI or gastrointestinal tract. Further, this product does not meet and follow the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Some features of the toys are dangerous

Although toys are meant to entertain a child if they're having tantrums or serves as prevention of boredom as kids easily get bored, thus, they need something that would allow them to have fun without making parents worried that they would get bored and would just suddenly scream especially in public. However, some features of toys appear to be harmful or dangerous specifically to young ones.

For instance, broken toys can produce sharp edges that may lead to cuts or more serious lacerations depending on where the toy hit as sharp edges can hurt one's eyes if it was accidentally placed improperly and may inflict damage on the child's eyes. The herbata magnetic polar pen construction set may lead to a swallow hazard as school-aged kids may still attempt to put the toy in their mouth. Also, some kids jokingly place such toys in their mouths as part of their game but appear to be dangerous as they can accidentally swallow them.

Kids Health says that some toys have small features or parts that can serve as choking hazards, so heed all warnings on a toy's packaging and reconsider every single thing that you think might cause an accident to your child. In fact, toys should be large enough or at least 1¼ or 3 centimeters in diameter and 2¼ and 6 centimeters in length, avoiding such to be swallowed or lodged in the windpipe.

Toy safety advice to prevent possible accidents

Playing plays an important role in the emotional well-being of children and at the same time improves their cognitive, physical, and social well-being. Kids learn about the world and themselves by playing and they also learn important skills they would need in the future.

Playing is something that kids cannot control as they are having fun, however, parents can manage and control most of the hazards young ones are exposed to. Noting that the toys must be safe according to the law. Hence, the main factors in preventing toy accidents are the way the toy is used and the age of the child considering that toys are not suitable for everyone, per ROSPA.
