P&G's Clearblue Test Predicts Weeks of Pregnancy

Clearblue, a Procter & Gamble (P&G) brand, has launched a new home pregnancy test that can predict how far along a woman is in her pregnancy.

Clearblue introduced their new product - Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator - at the 61st Annual Clinical Meeting of the American Congress of Obstetricians (ACOG) in New Orleans, recently.

The new Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator has already received FDA approval, and will be available over-the-counter and online September 2013 onward.

Doctors generally calculate the gestational age based on a woman's last menstrual period; however, it often becomes difficult when they fail to provide the exact date of their last menstrual period. The new kit makes the whole procedure easier, as it can show the exact week since ovulation occurred. According to the company, the new test is highly efficient in both identifying the pregnancy (99 percent) and providing details about the progress in pregnancy (93 percent).

"This test was created based on years of qualitative and quantitative consumer research and a clear understanding that a woman wants as much information as possible as soon as she receives a positive result," Kirsten Suarez, Clearblue brand manager, said in a news release. "The Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator gives her more information right at the beginning of this new phase in her pregnancy journey than she's ever had before."

During the AOG conference, the company also urged expecting couples to confirm the results provided by the new pregnancy test with health practitioners before seeking any medical care.
