Jon Watts, the director for the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, has hinted that Miles Morales is also going to become part of the movie. The African-American-Puerto Rican character assumed the role of the webbed one in the comic book series after the real Spider-man died.
Speaking with Yahoo, the director didn't want to divulge any concrete details because it "will reveal too much." But his keeping things under wraps is actually speaking volumes, according to the report.
"We're still writing the story...we haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows," Watts added when asked if there had been any discussions about making Morales a main character opposite Tom Holland, the British actor who is playing Peter Parker.
Rumors about casting Morales surfaced on the internet and among the fans' top picks for the part included Donald Glover ("Community") and Marcus Scribner ("Black-ish"). But Glover denied that this was happening back in February, "There's been talk about it," the actor said, according to Today. "I mean, I'd be honored to play it. It's really not up to me."
Meanwhile, in casting Holland as Peter Parker, the director had nothing but kind words for the young actor, whose confirmation to the movie was announced back in June after a long search, according to Marvel.
"He's sweet, but he seems like he'd be really morally grounded and he can be a little dorky when you need him to," said Watts in the Yahoo interview. "Also, he was in Billy Elliot in the West End, so he can actually just do a backflip. He's already a lot closer to being Spider-Man than you think."
The new "Spider-Man" movie is set for a 2017 release, but Holland will already be seen by fans when "Captain America: Civil War" comes to theater in May 2016, as part of the continuity in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
According to Outer Places, one of the coolest things about Holland's version of Spider-man is that he's going to be wearing two kinds of suits or costumes. The first one is of course the all-too familiar homemade red tights, but the second one will be an iron costume reportedly given to the superhero by none other than Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man.
Stark will also gift Peter Parker with web shooters, according to Latino Review, and if there's anything fans know about Stark's technology, the suit and the weapon should be highly advanced and well-crafted.
