A new mother died after taking cocaine on her first night out following the birth of her baby boy, a court in the United Kingdom has heard.
Becky Tollan died on July 15, 2019 at a house in Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was partying with her sister-in-law and two men they met at a local pub, according to the New York Post.
Barry McAuley and Martin Stewart were charged with culpable homicide after the two men allegedly provided Tollan with the Class A drug. The pair's trial started on Wednesday, with Tollan's sister-in-law, Pamela Tollan, taking the stand to recall the tragic death of the 23-year-old brunette.
Pamela blames McAuley and Stewart for Becky's death
Pamela emotionally told the court that Becky started shaking and she thought she was cold to start with. She called her sister-in-law repeatedly, asking out loud what was happening to her.
Pamela explained that she and Becky went out to a bar on the evening of July 14, with the new mother excited for her first social event since she gave birth to a baby boy just a few weeks earlier.
The duo were sitting alone at a table when a couple of drinks arrived their way, according to the Mirror. They were allegedly ordered by McAuley and Stewart for the two women. They subsequently went over to talk to the two men and they soon started drinking with them. Pamela told the court that Becky then asked the two men if they had any "stuff" with them.
Pamela told Becky to stop taking the cocaine
The devastated sister-in-law said she knew exactly what her sister-in-law meant with Becky basically asking if they had any cocaine.
One of the men charged allegedly produced a "wee bag" of cocaine before Becky disappeared to the bathroom to purportedly consume the drug. The group then moved to a house in the area, where the new mother allegedly ingested more cocaine.
Pamela declared that Becky was her own person, and that no matter how much she told her against it, she would not listen. Pamela told Becky to stop taking the cocaine as she did not need it because she was having a good time already, according to the Daily Mail.
After spending some time at the home, both Pamela and Becky were getting ready when the new mother suddenly started shaking and fitting.
Stewart, one of the men who is accused of providing the cocaine to the victim, purportedly asked Pamela if Becky had an epilepsy. Pamela said no while Stewart put Becky in the recovery position. Pamela claimed that Becky was constantly fitting and she was bleeding from the mouth after she bit her own tongue.
Emergency crew were then called to the home but they were unable to save the new mother, who was declared dead on July 15.
