Morgan Clodfelter is desperately searching for a piece of her heart after she lost the charm that contained her dead son's ashes.
The Forsyth County mom was emotional when talking to Fox 8, saying that losing a child is definitely not something that anyone prepares you for. She left the hospital on July 30, 2021 with two things, a stamp of her son Zachary James' feet and her baby's ashes.
Clodfelter said they don't know what happened to Zachary or why they lost him. She said she and her husband went to the doctor on the morning of July 30 after she noticed she was passing blood clots.
Baby Zachary died soon after delivery
Ultrasounds and other tests conducted on Clodfelter came back normal, but she started having contractions later that day. She said that she delivered her baby at home at 11:30 on July 30.
Clodfelter said Zachary was still alive then, but eventually did not make it after he was born. She said following the delivery, her husband rushed her to the hospital, where she underwent an emergency surgery as soon as she got there.
The couple took their baby Zachary to be cremated once they left the hospital. As the grieving mom healed, her loving husband bought her a small charm bracelet to remember their son by. The charm bracelet contained the inscription "Your wings were ready, but my heart was not."
Clodfelter said that saying has just stuck with her, adding that was her baby. Some of Zachary's ashes were placed inside the small charm, as a way for Morgan to stay close to her baby boy at all times, according to WFMY News.
She spent hours retracing her steps on Monday to find the missing charm. Clodfelter walked through her stops as she prepared for a family beach trip. She said that she was definitely very busy and the charm could be anywhere in Target as there was lots of shopping.
Morgan's Facebook post goes viral
Morgan was also moving car seats for her children and niece in and out of the car at each stop. She stopped at the Target located on Hanes Mall Boulevard before going to Lowes Foods, Starbucks, and Chick-fil-A in Clemmons.
The media outlet stopped into those businesses to ask the workers there if they saw a small heart-shaped charm. No one spotted it unfortunately, but they knew the charm bracelet right away. The workers said they saw Morgan's now-viral Facebook post which has amassed more than 30,000 shares.
Clodfelter said it would mean the world to her to know that it is not just missing. She prays that someone picked up the charm. Morgan refuses to take off the bracelet that serves as her connection to her little boy. She does plan to buy another piece of jewelry to incorporate her baby into something that she knows won't fall off.
