Authorities in the state of Ohio are investigating the slaying of a Brunswick teen who was shot and killed in the city of Warren while trying to sell a video game console, Cleveland.com reported.

Police said that Brunswick High School junior Mye'Zavier "Zay" Cannady made plans on an app to meet another user before 6 p.m. on Friday, November 11, to sell a PlayStation 5.

Cops added that Cannady was shot during that said transaction in front of 2217 Ogden Ave., which is located on the west side of the city. The victim was driven by another person to Trumbull Regional Medical Center for treatment. He later died in that hospital.

Teen shot while selling Playstation 5

Robert Massucci, who is a captain in the Warren Police Department, said that Cannady was shot after he handed over the game controllers to the buyer but not the PlayStation 5 device.

Massucci said that a gun was pointed at them after he had not exchanged the controllers. The driver took off at that point. Massucci added that there were several shots fired after they took off, and the victim was struck several times, WKBN reported.

A police officer in the area heard gunshots, and the cop was later stopped by Cannady and two other people with him in the vehicle. The officer escorted the injured teen to the hospital.

Amanita Burleigh, the mother of Cannady, said she wants justice for the death of her teen son. She said that she just wants to know how a promising life, his son's future, gets cut short over a PlayStation? She added that she is so hurt and she does not know how she is going to live with this.

Alicia Gilpen said in an interview that Cannady was one of her best friends. She described the teen as outgoing, generous and fun. She said that she is going to miss him to pieces and that he was a wonderful person.

Coworkers mourn Cannady's death

The victim also worked part-time at Dairy Queen. His coworkers there said Cannady was an incredible friend and role model to them. One of his managers at Dairy Queen who asked not to be identified said the teen often volunteered and loved to work with kids.

She said that their Zay was everything you would want in a friend, son and employee and that is what he was to their entire staff. She said that he would always bring his sister in for ice cream when off the clock, or spend time with the general manager's children, whom he adopted as his own siblings.

The store, located at 1418 Pearl Road in Brunswick, will be collecting donations for the family of Cannady through November 20. Brunswick Schools Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer sent an email on Saturday morning to to families, sharing the sad news of Cannady's death, according to WKYC.
