Katherine Heigl heaped praises on her mother and producing partner, Nancy Heigl, whom she credits for helping her career in show business.

Heigl said on the third hour of TODAY on November 28 that her mother protected her during her whole career, and many young women in Hollywood did not have what she had.

She said that she was fortunate. She recently had a chat with her mom, telling her that it would not have gone so well for her if she had not been there. Heigl thinks she would have easily been talked into things that she would not do and regret.

Heigl credits her mom for being her protector

Heigl, who rose to stardom on the hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," before moving into movies like "27 Dresses" and "Knocked Up" knows the pitfalls that exist with becoming an actress, which is why her mom has been so important to her.

Heigl said that it is a complex industry, and there is a lot of money at stake and there is a lot of agendas. She pointed out that it is special to have somebody whose only agenda was her and protecting her. She added that her mother is brilliant and very business savvy, which Heigl said is not her thing.

Heigl once shared a glimpse of her close relationship with her mom Nancy in a sweet Mother's Day post on Instagram in May 2020. She wrote that anyone "who has ever met Nancy Heigl knows she is extraordinary."

She added that her mother had been her mentor, her protector, her nurturer, her friend, and her partner every one of her 41 years. According to Heigl, she had borrowed all the best parts from her mother until she had enough strength to make them her own. She concluded her message by saying that love does not seem a big enough word for how she feels for her mother, but it will have to do. She ended her post with, "I love you, mom."

Heigl busy with the Firefly Lane promotion

The 44-year-old Hollywood actress will again be gracing the small screen when the first half of the final season of her hit series "Firefly Lane" becomes available on Netflix for streaming on December 2.

Heigl recently looked back on the beginning of her motherhood journey after she adopted daughter Naleigh with husband Josh Kelley in 2009. She explained on The View that becoming a mother while busy at work created an unexpected fear for her, E! Online reported.

She said that Naleigh came to them at nine months, and three days later, she got on a plane and went to work in Atlanta. She added that she was at work with three triplets playing her goddaughter and spent more time with them than with her new daughter.
