Two Indiana mothers were hailed as heroes after they saved the life of a missing Ohio baby and helped in capturing the kidnapper.
Five-month-old twins Kason and Kyair Thomas were left in the backseat of a family Honda at Donato's Pizza in Columbus last December 19 when Nalah Jackson stole the vehicle.
One of the twins, Kyair, was soon found at the Dayton International Airport parking lot after a bystander witnessed him being abandoned on the spot. However, Kason remained missing, which led the authorities to issue an Amber alert.
People reported that the other twin, Kason, was found safe in Indianapolis near a Papa John's pizza location three days later, as announced by the Columbus Division of Police on their Facebook page.
Thanks to Shyann Delmar and Mecka Curry, whom the authorities described as "quick-thinking women" that immensely helped in solving the case.
He and his wife as villains
When Kason was missing, Jackson allegedly began selling toys from a car. Delmar, an Indiana mom, bought some toys from her and even gave her a ride to a nearby store. However, at those times, Delmar felt there was something fishy as Jackson's story seemed contradictory.
She felt so strange that it pushed her to take a video of the suspect. They even swapped phone numbers if Delmar wanted to purchase more toys.
The next day, Delmar saw a mugshot of Jackson while she was scrolling on Facebook. Thus, she contacted authorities immediately, News 5 Cleveland reported.
Delmar then asked her cousin, Curry, for help. The two women went to Jackson and told her they wanted to buy more toys. They were already part of the authorities' plan to get Jackson into their vehicle.
When the plan worked, the authorities pulled the vehicle over and arrested Jackson. However, Kason still needed to be found.
It took courage
Delmar and Curry had the initiative to check every bus stop in the area as they knew that the suspect had been traveling by bus. They could not locate the bus until they spotted a Honda in a parking lot and saw baby Kason inside.
They signaled the police, who identified the baby and was found still wearing the same clothes he had when he was kidnapped.
IMPD Sgt. Shawn Anderson, a Columbus Police spokesperson, told News 5 how social media could be a "positive tool" to help spread important information and help solve cases effectively.
"Mecka and Shyann, I appreciate you. My family appreciates you. What you guys did, it took courage," said LaFonda Thomas, baby Kason's grandmother.
Jackson, in the meantime, has been charged with two counts of felony kidnapping, according to People. No plea has been entered, and online court records do not reflect any attorney representative on her behalf.
