A mother admits to using a baby gate to keep her daughter out of the kitchen.

Holly Williams, 25, from the United Kingdom, resorted to putting a baby gate in the kitchen to block her 5-year-old daughter, Harlow, from overeating.

The 5-year-old girl is currently weighing 98 pounds and is severely overweight due to a rare condition that constantly leaves her hungry for more food.

To take care of her child, the mother has decided to install locks as a necessary step in efforts to keep her daughter healthy and safe in the long run.

5-Year-Old With Prader-Willi Syndrome

According to the New York Post, Holly Williams stated that her daughter Harlow was given a diagnosis of Prader-Willi syndrome when she was only six months old.

The disease indicates that she is missing chromosome 15, which is responsible for regulating appetite; this means that her little one is perpetually hungry.

As per Holly, they were able to instantly determine that there was something concerning with her daughter when she was born. She added that, strangely, her daughter did not cry.

Williams also mentioned that her child is floppy most of the time. They also observed that Harlow does not take a bottle well and would not be properly fed.

Those who are affected by the rare genetic condition known as Prader-Willi syndrome may experience difficulties in their physical health, mental state, and behavior. Obesity is a contributing factor in a significant number of the disease's consequences.

Harlow's ability to accomplish key milestones has been hampered by Prader-Willi syndrome. She could not keep her head up until she was eight months old, and she didn't walk until she was two and a half years old.

Williams is taking precautions to ensure her daughter's health now that she is aware of her daughter's challenges.

The Mirror reports that Harlow is currently obese and has a weight that is far more than what is considered normal for a girl her age.

Williams has indicated that she makes certain that her daughter consumes a diet that is nutritious and well-balanced, but that she still allows her to partake in sweets since she is still a child.

This is also the main reason why the mother chose to put a lock on their kitchen, despite it sounding harsh to other people. The mother believes that her child's health should come first.

The Prader-Willi Syndrome

According to the NHS, Prader-Willi syndrome is an extremely rare genetic condition that can manifest itself in a variety of ways, including mental, emotional, and behavioral issues.

A persistent feeling of hunger is one of the defining characteristics of Prader-Willi syndrome, which often appears between the ages of 2 and 4 years old.

Prader-Willi syndrome is characterized by a wide range of symptoms, including floppiness caused by weak muscles, restricted development, increased hunger, and behavioral problems.

These symptoms are also what Williams noticed in her daughter. Since Prader-Willi syndrome does not have a cure, therapy focuses on alleviating the symptoms and helping patients cope with the challenges associated with the condition.

Keeping a person with Prader-Willi syndrome at a healthy weight is one of the most vital aspects of providing care for someone who has the condition.
